This 42 year-old interview with Tolkien (plus some fascinating vox pops with Oxford students of 1968) has been just published for viewing on the BBC archive.

Well worth 27 minutes of your time!

First things first..boy, television sure has improved since 1968, in just about every aspect.

It was very interesting to see and hear J.R.R. Tolkien speak, but the Oxford students and other interviewees sort of detracted from the program. In fact, I was so uninterested in what they had to say towards the end that I began to drag the playhead through their segments. I guess this was more relevant when Tolkien was alive, and debates about LotR symoblism were hot button issues.

Anyway, thanks for the find, I enjoyed it. 8)

I forgot to mention how interesting it was when Tolkien wrote and spoke in Elvish!
