Hey All, Can anyone confirm if there will be plastic hobbit box sets on the way - possibly with the release of WotR? I'd really like to play a hobbit army, but the price barrier to entry is so high! |

I really don't think that plastic hobbits are likely to happen, certainly not in the near future. |

the one thing that is coming in plastic box are the Dead of Dunharrow but I quess that they will make the plastic hobbits cause its very unlikely to play the WoTR with metal ones... and I think that they are going to do so with most of the armys so they could be more available to the gamers |

I hope they do personally, the metals have always been too expensive. I would love to see the look on your face John when they confirm that they are releasing them lol. |

I would not expect to see hobbit hordes on the scale of those from any other race as they were a peaceable people. I would guess that we may be more likely to see some new hobbit sculpts but in still metal. But you never know... |

Like Dorth, I wouldn't bet on plastic Hobbits. While a Hobbit horde is a fun niche armies, it's not their nature to take to the battlefield in high enough numbers to warrant a plastic set. |

whoa whoa whoa... just because they got the shaft in the PJ's excellent movies, doesn't mean the shire-folk don't know how to throw down. Scouring of the Shire anyone? Some say that piece of the book is critical to the telling of the story (those are generally the folks that didn't like the films). Gandalf left the hobbits to their own and they drove out Sharkey and his nasties... they deserve to be made into plastic! |

Right, but I bet you'd be hard pressed to find 50 Shirriffs in the Shire willing to organize and take to an open battlefield like a disciplined, experienced army. I agree that they're tough, but theme-wise they're much better suited to smaller scenarios. They're not going to form a huge army, because as Dorth said, they were a peaceable people. They threw out the Rogues because they invaded the Shire. |

Gandalf left the hobbits to their own and they drove out Sharkey and his nasties... they deserve to be made into plastic! Not really, considering you need 4 Shirrifs, 9 Archers and 12 Militia to fight the SotS scenarios. That's what, one model more than the average plastic box set. They would be better served producing something with a broader range of uses than Hobbits, such as plastic Variags, which double as Mercs. |

I just want to point out that I have absolutely nothing against hobbits - they are great little folk - but I am trying to think in commercial terms (something akin to what GW do but I refuse to be lobotimised first). They will make plastic renditions of those forces that fought larger battles and campaigns, as these are the forces people are likely to purchase. By way of comparison, take a look at the wonderful plastic boxes produced by the Perry Twins or Victrix (Napoleonics) and Warlord Games (Romans and Celts). Many manufacturers make metal Napoleonics and Ancients. To put together a largish force is expensive as the cost is typically £1-£2 per figure whereas the plastics, comparable in quality, are under 50p each. metals are still used for characters or uncommon figures. http://www.warlordgames.co.uk/ http://www.perry-miniatures.com/index2.html http://www.victrixlimited.com/index.php Hooray for hobbits (but don't expect them in plastic - yet!) |

Awww gee wilakers... Thanks for the links Dorth. I want a hobbit army, but I'm not about to drop near $200 on it right now... I've faith that the plastics are coming. There are a lot of people interested in that force. Especially after the 2008 GT. |

Well I'd be delighted if the Hobbit army would come out That is an intereting view of that their all beeing a peacful nation and all that but still its GW and you might just never know... But I still suppose that they are going to turn most of the metal minis to plastic... Variags / Dunland / Dead (wich they already have) / alll those Gondor minis /etc. (IMO) |
