Post subject: | Uruks with Tower Shields? |
Hey all, Sorry if this has already been mentioned etc, but I think i've come across something rather odd on the Games Workshop website. In the section for the next issue of White Dwarf, under Legions of the Eye, i can help but wonder what it means by 'Uruk-Hai with massive tower shields' Link: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=&categoryId=1100004a§ion=whiteDwarf&aId=2200011a My first thoughs were that these are the Black Guard of Barad dur that - thanks to another thread - are preordarable on Maelstrom. What does everyone think? Sorry if for some reason this has to be locked, or if its already been mentioned. |

well, safely i think we can assume its not a new release. Its probably just a bit of modelling and hobby fun. I made something similar by mounting a isengard troll shield upside down on a 40mm base..lol. |

Corsair: I suppose they probably are the black guard, however im still rather shocked at the fact that the black guard are getting a comman box, even though surely we could do with better boxes - eg a Goblin command box, or a dwarf command box. But i suppose that will have to wait untill another release? And i suppose the black guard fit better with the fallen realms theme. Still, im happy about the Easterlings and Harad command boxes - finally i can make that all Easterling army ive always wanted! Galad |

You realize there were already Captains/ Chieftains and banners for both of these, right? What we need is a Mordor Uruk Command and a Khandish Command. I wish they'd release things like Hornblowers in single blisters, but I guess redundant Captains and the like make GW more money... |

Tower shields? Something like the Roman legionery scutum, perhaps? It would be great to see a picture. My fear is that GW are determined to wring every penny out of the genre, regardless of whether the minis represent something that was actually mentioned by Tolkien (even once...) |

Lord Hurin- Yes i did release that games workshop have made blisters for easterlings and haradhrim already, what i was saying is that it is nice that they are bringing out boxes of 3 command models, you know with the musician or whatever. Sorry if i didn't make that much sense earlier! Dorthonian - Yes Games workshop do seem to like making products that are bearly touched apon by Tolkien, but i suppose that in the end, its still good for the future of the SBG and WOTR. Just a bit of info, the maelstrom site says that the models are out 24/10/09. Cheers for all your thoughs, much apprieciated |

I think its annoying tht they just add in another captain and banner, when really we just need musicians, shamans and taskmasters. So now we are gonna have even MORE captains and banner bearers, but none of the upgradable minis we want.... Regarding the black guard of barad dur, they should have shields, as it says in their wargear. I also said in a previous discussion that you can expect them to have similar heavy armour to the current shagrat war leader miniature. I.e the chainmail war skirt, feather segmented breastplate. |

Chainmail skirts and feathered breastplates? Are these the Black Guard we are talking about or the Barad-Dur burlesque dancing troupe? |

Are these the Black Guard we are talking about or the Barad-Dur burlesque dancing troupe? Hey, i didn't design them! I can imagine the meeting regarding the design though. designer 1: "So er, any ideas on the new Barad dur uruks?" designer 2: "erm, well, i have been recently inspired bu the burlesque dancing troupe" designer 1: "sounds good, skirts and feather plates it is..." designer 2: "well thank god thats over, lets ask for a pay rise..." |

You were right about them. Captain is like centurion and guard are like legionaries. |
