Post subject: | Interesting Miniature |
While looking at a new article on GW's site ( Winter War - Snow Bases) I found an interesting figure: I'm not sure if this is a conversion or not. It almost looks like a Rohan Royal Guard placed on an Easterling Kataprahkt horse, with a shield made of plasticard. I'm not sure though, and I'd thought I'd post it here. What do you guys think? Is it a conversion, or possibly a new miniature from the rumored Rohan release? If it is a conversion, it's a very nice one at any rate! |

Looks like a conversion--I have an Easterling Kataphrakt, that horse looks EXACTLY the same. The kite shield looks interesting. But I think it's a conversion. |

Yeah, conversion, but it does look good. |

I agree. Most definitely a conversion, but it looks pretty sharp. I have never liked the Mounted RRG because of it being a metal miniature on a plastic horse. The LotR horses have very fragile ankles. |

We keep appealing for plastic RRG (foot and mounted) but pigs will fly first... |

It wouldn't be so bad if they had more than one foot on the ground. |

A lovely conversion. Like the norman style kite shield. =) James |

That is a great conversion. The armoured horse could also be great for a Sons of Eorl conversion. |

I was just ogling that. The figure looks like a Norman knight - or like Alan Lee's older depictions of the Rohirrim. I rather like the result! |

James I agree. I was just about to comment about it looking like a norman general before I read the full thread. [edit] Speaking of which a local is heavily into ancients wargaming and is making a rohan army. He is using gripping beast shields for his rohan instead of the round shields provided: http://www.grippingbeast.com/product.php?ItemID=825 http://www.grippingbeast.com/product.php?ItemID=814 They seem to scale very well with the rohan minis. Even though the point is not as deep as the kite shield on the mini in the OP. (which I quite like) Does anyone know of any other manufacturer that makes kite shields? |

Maybe this conversion is a forerunner to a rohan release. I certaunly hope so Rohan's models look is currently my worst apart from ugly galadrim. I'd love to get foot and mounted raoyal guard in plastic! |

Though it's propably a conversion i dont mind if they would release a (plastic) guard like this. The rider looks plastic someway, so it could be a real plastic and with the forthcoming release of rohan&isengard, they may release something like that(and a mounted hama). but that are just my thoughts. |

Yep, it's a conversion (The boss of the shield doesn't stick out enough to be real) but the RRG with a kite shield on an armoured horse certainly does look good. |

It's possible it's a sneak peak considering that it was announced in WD that there would be new Rohan and Isengard sets. October WD: Quote: "In the coming months the Horse Lords of Rohan will benefit from new miniatures, so start building up your Rohirrim; but Evil players have much still to look forward to, as the forges of Isengard have not been idle." - [Mat Ward]

if it's a convertion it looks like it's been done by the 'eavy metal team. so we could be getting something like this just with out the kite shield |

This is just an easterling horse with a rohan royal guard on it with a new plasticard shield. James Lets hope for helms guard later on =) |
