How do you make three movies from 1 book that is only 1/3 the size of the Lotr trilogy? Maybe most would like to see a trilogy but I for one would rather have the story of the Hobbit wrapped up more quickly in two films. It's a good thing there's a mention in the article of Peter wanting to use most of the material in the appendices, otherwise if it was only the proper story of 1 book spread out across a film trilogy it would just sound like he's stalling & dragging the story out for way too long. Not overly excited at the news but not dissapointed or mad either. It's just now I have to anticipate for another extra year to see the end of the story to the film adaptation if they decide to go ahead with making it into a trilogy. If anything this should be good news for GW which will generate an extra year of interest in their new product line, that's if they don't kill it off first with their enormous price hikes! |

Well said The Hobbit in 3 films is like LotR in 15. Good for GW though. |

You have a point. However, The story could easily be broken into three Movies especially adding the material from 100 pages of appendices. First, The trip to Rivendale with encounters with trolls, Goblin town, Golum and the wolfs/wargs and goblins. Beorin, spiders and capture and escape from the wood elves in movie two. Lake Town. Lonely Mountain and The Dragon plus the Battle of Five Armies In Movie three. They are going to work the Necromancer and the back ground of all of this in some how. There is plenty for several movies. Quote: stalling & dragging the story out for way too long. I think you would change your mind if you review the appendices. After all the Hobbit is small part of the Lord of the Rings |

I'm sure I would be glad once the time has passed and all three are out and they've made extra content filmed beside having just the original story, that they've included the Necromancer in it (never read that side story though). Well judging by the linked article posted, PJ and the studio isn't considering a third movie just for the sake of having a trilogy to milk dollars but rather they can't fit everything that they want to fit in within two 3 hour long films to tell the story that they want to show without driving their audience to exhaustion. |

I'm going to assume that he's going to use the appendices. The first 2 are fleshed out Hobbit movies with extra appendix stuff while the 3rd is going to be an inbetween movie with the possibilty of showing what happened at the Lonely Mountain during LotR. |

From what I understand, the third film will be using the appendices and be creating a 'bridge' film that connects the Hobbit to The Lord of the Rings. So it won't be stretching out the Hobbit story at all. |
