Below is a pic comparing Thror to Gloin and a Grimhammer. He's the same height, maybe a hair taller but given he's wearing a crown that seems ok to me. He's quite a bit wider and bulkier. The sculpt is brilliant, as we have all seen, but there were a few minor Finecast issues I had to work around. The most painful one is one of the prongs on his crown had a tip break off so I'm going to have to greenstuff that. Not a huge deal, but not something I'd like to waste time on. The detail on the model is beautiful but the sword is very thin and the place where his left hand attaches to the sprue isn't the best as you lose the detail on the underside when you trim it. Fortunately, the shield covers this up. Make sure when you assemble the model that you remove all the resin "triangles" that show up as part of the finecast process. In particular, there is one under his left arm that if you don't remove it, the separate cloak piece won't fit properly. You'll end up with a wide gap that needs to be filled on his shoulders where the two parts come together. Great model, just wish it was metal or plastic. |

Can you do some shots against the old style dwarves? |

Hopefully I can grab the right attention in this thread, would anybody - Arkenstone?- be interested in writing up a full review of Thror, The Grimhammers and Grimhammers captain from the new releases for the next Green Dragon newsletter? Trying to improve the content with more interesting reading material and I think an honest hobbyists review of the new releases would be certainly a good read. I would do it but I write too much for that newsletter already. |

Trying to improve the content with more interesting reading material and I think an honest hobbyists review of the new releases would be certainly a good read. I would do it but I write too much for that newsletter already. I'd be happy to write reviews for any models I have purchased. I have EfGT, Hunter Orcs (foot and mounted), Rivendell Knights, Great Eagles, Grimmhamers, Warriors of Dale, Thror, and Bolg. I didn't buy the Grimmhammer captain because I wasn't impressed with the one I saw at the LGS, Lindir looked much better and I wasn't much of a fan of that model initially. I have trouble justifying $15-$20 for generic "characters" that could conceivable be made out of the general plastic boxed set (Grimmhammers). I'm actually working on a Grimhammer banner bearer conversion. But, I digress. Let me know what you'd like me to write a first hand review for. I've been in the SBG since inception and have nearly the entire model range so I feel that I could give a pretty comprehensive review. Thanks |

Thanks for posting the pic and giving your thoughts on the model. It is an impressive sculpt. I'm so bitter about the problems still occurring with 'Fine'cast product from GW. There is virtually no way I can purchase it, at a realistic price, and be assured of getting a model that is free from manufacturing faults. [/rant] |

I would also be happy to write reviews for your news letter for any miniatures I have in my collection. I only have the plastics so far for the March releases, i will be purchasing the Finecast real soon though. Otherwise if some else is writing i would be happy to provided images. You can check out some of my reviews on my site. Just let me know |

I have all three, painted up and all, as seen in my WiP. Thror and the Grimhammer captain were my first ever finecast models, and I was quite blown away with the detail. Let me know if you'd want me to write up something. Regards |

I took the liberty of making a quick shot. Here's a comparison with the old metal ones; They look quite out of proportion next to Thror, especially on the head front. Also they're as you can see smaller, and wider. |

D'oh =( I was worried about that and rightly so I guess. I wonder why they changed the proportions so much!? |

The old Dwarves look cartoonish compared to Thror, who looks more realistically proportioned. Not sure if this is because he's based on the film imagery or what, but I don't care for the old sculpts when I see them next to the Last King. |

I prefer the old dwarves... in my opinion they looked alot more 'dwarvish'. Some of the new ones could pass for humans in a different scale... |

Yeah I love the new detail etc. it's just a pity they won't fit nicely with my other hundred dwarves. The cynic in me thinks it's deliberate so I buy hundreds more of the new ones =) |

I have him on special order through my LGS and I can't wait to get him! I've got a couple hundred Dwarves and will get at least a box each of the new two. |
