Anyone else annoyed that Beorn's role has been made basically non existent in the BOTFA? I had been looking forward to his big moment since I heard the Hobbit films were being made. Pretty disappointed with that tbh. Missed opportunity from PJ |

I haven't seen this but its a spoiler I'm willing to read and am greatly upset by. I've waited since I've seen him to watch him rip orcs to pieces relentlessly. I really wish he'd have been a huge piece. Probably though....they're just making it so the heroes of the films do their parts more. |

Rather than the presence, or absence of any particular element from the book, I'm mostly disappointed that there's too MUCH action and not enough plot. Unlike LotRs which IMO left you wanting more action while the conclusion dragged on, the hobbit is the reverse - the BoFA drags on and on and on then the film finishes in the blink of an eye without really tying up the lose ends of the story: What happens to Bard and the people of laketown? The Arkenstone? Does Thranduil get his gems back? What happens to Tauriel? Who becomes King of the Dwarves upon Thorin's death? A person would be lost if they hadn't read the book first. |

I know, Michaelc, I say things a lot of people don't believe. But I believe big business won't change. The same way there was never going to be another Star Wars, or Jurassic Park.....is the same way there won't be another film to represent missing pieces. Unfortunately, Tolkeins work freaks out more people. So they have to pick their time and place.....but it will happen. |

As much as I completely dislike PJ's version of Beorn, even I was disappointed with the fact his role in TBOFA had essentially been reduced to a screen-grab. |

I doubt we'll see another film any time soon. The two rights holders - the Estate and the Middle-earth Enterprises (formerly Saul Zaentz enterprises, or Tolkien Enterprises) need to maintain the value of their property, and that value stems from managing the Middle-earth property just so. The Estate doesn't want people playing with the Unfinished Tales or First Age stories (though Children of Hurin might sort of work, but it would be a verrrrry different experience to the Hobbit) and as much as the MEE would like a constant stream of income, if they expand the world too much and mess it up, it would not be a good thing for their property management strategies. The moment Middle earth becomes "just another fantasy property" is the moment that people stop caring. |

I think the current movie leaves enough things open for the bridge film between Hobbit and LOTR that has been talked about many times before. Right-wise, that sound be not much of a problem, since there's enough content in LOTR and the appendices for that. Wether that will really happen remains to be seen. For one thing, I don;t think PJ will be doing anything Middle-Earth related soon. I also don't see the rights of the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales being sold any time soon and frankly, I can more or less live with the Hobbit movies, but if we can expect something in that line for the Silmarillion, I'm glad the rights remain the way they are now! |

Glad that others agree on the Beorn issue. Was also good to see (although briefly) the original design for Bolg used to torture Gandalf at Dol Goldur. |

I loved the films but I also agree, Beorn's role should have been extended. |

i'm waiting to pass final judgement on the film until the EE, but I will say that the end was a disappointment. The rest of the movie was really good, but the ending duel was just kind of weird. I think that once PJ has the EE done, we'll have plenty of Beorn, and everything else, as I really think he can easily add an hour of stuff. |
