Can anyone explain to me how to wash colors to miniatures? |

Do you mean using the Citadel Washes like Badab Black, Devlan Mud, or do you mean using paints like Snot Green? |

If you mean a Citadel wash, just wait for all the pain to dry, then apply it with a brush onto the area eg the whole model or just the armour. If you mean using paints, just put a small amount of the paint with a larger quantity of water. |

Yeh, just add water to the paint to thin it out and then apply it to the area you want the wash on. |

No...don't just add water to paint. Depending on what you want to do, there are 2 different methods/mediums to add to the paint/water mix. If you want the paint wash to act more like the Citadel Washes (where it gathers and stays in the details), you need to mix a 1:1 paint/PVA glue mix. Then add 4 parts water or enough to make it thin enough to flow like a wash. If you want more of a glaze (overall stain), then you need to mix a 2:1 Paint/Liquid Hand Soap mix, then add 4 parts water. This breaks the surface tension and allows the paint wash to produce an even tone over the area. |

Neat tips, I'll have to try those out. I'm going to be staining some terrain to look mossy, kind of like the green stains on the statue in the Gardens of Morr kit on GW's site (if you've seen the pics), so it looks like your soap mix might do the trick. What do you think? |

I just took a look at that, and yes - it can work. I used the PVA method on my statue, but I was going for a slightly different effect. You can't see it all that well, but I don't have my camera to take different pics... I basecoated the model with Sandstone (Ceramcoat acrylic paint), then gave it a paint wash of Catachan Green (PVA mix), then hit the edges again with the Sandstone. |

Think so yeah. Perhaps try it on one model and see how it turns out. |

Lol dudes if its a financial thing I get it, but other wise all this mad scientist thing, 10 drops of this 1 of that and boom. Dont worry about all the chemistry of mixing and matching whats wrong with already made washes like gw's range or simmilar? |

Because that's a very limited range of colors and it's good to know how to make your own - especially if you want a different effect, or a custom color. GW washes are excellent, sure, but limited. |

Well i guess i can try and understand that point of wanting to be innovative and stuff ( human nature) but for me its human nature to be lazy and just buy the already made washes. |
