What colours does everyone suggest to paint the amour/shield of the Palace Guards. And what technique/how should it be done. I've been caught in a pickle here and have tried a few different combos and no matter what I do I havn't been happy with the result yet :/ |

I used shining gold follow by a drybrush of golden griffon then washed black (armour only). There are pictures on my WIP. |

I noticed in the movie that several of them had black shields while others had the lighter brown with wood effect that GW has given them. I find that the wood is a bit too bright in GW's version so I would go with a darker brown or black for the shields. As for the metals, I think silver would look quite good, but if you are intent on the gold i think just shining gold and add a bit of silver for the second layer would do quite well. This would be similar to the Easterlings scheme. I use Vallejo Bronze and a shining gold for mine as I think the bronze gives just the right contrast, with or without a wash, when used with the shining gold. |

Yeh I saw the same and first tried for the wood effect with no much happening, tried tin bits/shining gold with a brown wash, ended up looking way to tinny rather than woody so gave up hahaha. |
