Recently finished a bunch of Galadhrim. It was the first time I'd undercoated models in grey as I'd been told it was the best choice if you are wanting to paint gold armour.

Anyway my next project will be a small contingent of Dol Amroth knights on foot. Am I still better off priming them grey or is the usual black a better option?

Cheers guys

Gray works. I'm partial to white priming myself. It helps metals really pop

I'm another that primes white, mainly, but grey would be fine, once done, I would use Harfoots suggestion and then base coat a mid brown. This will help set the time for any gold colours.
Keep as grey for silver finishes.
