Ive just started a battle companies campaign playing as Durins Folk, and the organiser has ruled that I can't access Foe Spears or Iron Shields with my heros as they aren't specifically listed in the Armoury, or in the Durins Folk profile. I disagree as it stated in the book "Hero models are much less limited... They can purchase any piece of wargear that is available to any member of their Battle Company, inclusing those that could be promoted or join as Reinforcements"

Is he correct in his ruling, or am I?
TIA

I'm inclined to think your organizer is correct in his conclusion. By my reading of the rule the wargear that available for purchase must be listed in the armory or in the battle company's entry page: that being where the price for each item comes from. The warriors can only access the wargear in the army that is in their own profiles while the heroes can access any wargear in the armory that is available to any member of their company. The requirement is twofold then, because the wargear must first be in the armory to purchase, and second, the unit must have access to the wargear to buy it.

The foe spear and iron shield are not in the armory. Therefore, they fail to meet the first condition and cannot be purchased. This reading is supported by the absents of any listed price for either item anywhere. So, there is no way to know how much each piece would actually cost to give to a hero.

That is how I would play it.
