Played another fun, story-driven scenario from FOTR with my son this afternoon. I think we spent more time building terrain and painting specific models for this scenario than actually playing the game. My son did a great job painting Tom and Goldberry in particular.

Photos can been seen here:

It would be difficult to write a battle report, because the confused halflings moved all over the board during the course of the game, often against their will. The Barrow Wights were able to paralyze and drag their prey with ease most of the time.

Though hobbits were able to break out of their spells every now and then, they were not able to successfully call on Tom until very late in the game, too late in fact. Merry had already been sacrificed by then and Tom only had two turns to close the distance and save Pippin.

We assumed that the halflings could not call on Tom if the evil side had priority and had charged a hobbit. So they key to an evil side victory was limiting the opportunities good had to call on Tom for help. Poor Goldberry never even got in the game! She was there for post-game photo-op only.

It sounds like if the Fellowship had relied on the results of the scenarios that the second and third books would never have been written. In the early days, (version 1 of the game) it was stated that good would often overpower evil.

The scenery and minis look great. Nice photos.

Interesting. One of the guys down in Richmond is starting a Angmar army and he was just talking about wanting to run this scenario. Nice to see it can still be a fun game.

I am guessing the forthcoming Amazon LOTR series will have much to do in Angmar and hope to see more army builds, scenarios and campaigns focused in this area.
