Hi,

Last year we played a map based campaign with great success at our local gaming club. It culminated in a 7-way big battle in December.
It was our first map based campaign so of course there were some lessons learned. Those lessons have resulted in a new set of campaign rules:

Comments/suggestions are welcome. I'll post the final version of the rules when it's ready.

Looks great Cosworth!
I'd love to be involved with something like this, bad part is that I live where no one plays. :(

Link's not working for me.

Like Dave, I have a serious dearth of opponents. Except the local GW. Where all the LotR players are about half my age and play Wood Elves or Grey Company almost exclusively.

Link is working fine from here. Could you be websensed or obstructed in some other way Gaarew?
Anyone else having the same problem?

Sorry to hear about your lack of opponents.
Our current gaming group of 10 players has been built slowly over the last year. We have converted several WHFB players simply by showing more activity than other gaming factions (at least once a month). The Huge map we put on the notice board helped attract attention too in the club. People were drooling over all the strategic aspects a map added to the game. Several Blood Bowl players have shown interest and are now playing both games, so the jump is not as big as you might think. Currently we are taking a break from campaigning by playing a Mighty Empires variant of LotR (5 to 7 250 pt games in a day)

Cool, I've just printed to read later, fortunately I have no problem with 6 regular opponants and up to 10 at my club.

Excellent stuff Cosworth, I've downloaded them and will read ASAP, at first glance it looks very well presented.

Were did you get hold of a big map of Middle Earth. The largest I've seen is the one from the War of the Ring Campaign which came in a WD magazine one month I think.

The map from WD inspired me to do the first campaign. It didn't cover much of middle earth though so I turned to google with this search and others similar.

The link goes to a .pdf, sometimes these take an age to open and make it appear its not working. Try right clicking and select 'save target as..' and then open.

Yup, it was a matter of time.

And this is supposed to be broadband...

Rules have been updated and polished a bit. Link is updated in the first post.

Signup for the campaign has been terrific and all 10 factions have players now.
One of them is a GW employee who has promised to bring a WotR copy with him for our kick-off of round 1 in february. He'll brief us on the details and we get to peak inside the book. Good times!

WOW, Cosworth, amazing! 8) This is basically my Mighty Empires esque rules! Personal Hero generation is nearly the same (battle Company Influence Tables with a few tweaks) and Hero injury determination is also similar (though not quite as extensive. I find that battle Companies Injury Table bogs the game down a bit

Thx Doop dude. I have indeed borrowed ideas from battle company rules (and some other places). Steal with pride!

Rules have been updated after reviewing them from a min/max'ers perspective. So I've closed a few loop holes. version is now at 0.97

Pre campaign excitement is high and people are already taunting each other and discussing alternative alliances.

Adding a meta-game to the normal ORB rules really gives increased "meaning" to individual battles. It's not as unforgiving as in a tournament, but still it matters if you win or loose. Makes people just a little bit sharper in their game.

Just a quick update on the campaign. We are currently in our 3rd round a mayhem rules throughout middle earth - I love it!

The good faction was splintered after round 1 as Elves and gondor broke the alliance. The Evil faction saw Easterlings and Goblins leave.

So in round 2 we had 2 alliances, 4 independents and 2 new arrivals to the campaign (making it 12 players).

I've made some minor tweeks to the rules to allow 3-way battles in certain situations. The penalties for loosing battles is a little steep, so with 2-3 unlucky battles you are far behind the competition. One guy has lost 3 out of his original 6 areas, so he's hurting bad.

Version is at 0.99 now. Link remains the same:
