I don't really want to pay a lot of money just to get the scenarios from the book. I was wondering if they were balanced and how people liked the scenarios. If there were any scenarios not up to scratch, has anybody made their own scenarios for the hobbit films?

I haven't had the chance to play all of them yet. However, one that sticks out in my mind is the three Trolls scenario. Instead of the dwarves attacking the trolls in a last ditch effort to save their ponies, it becomes a rout for the trolls as they are seriously no match for all of Thorin's company together. The special rules for the trolls in the scenario don't actually help all that much either. I believe we played it three times at the club and every result was the same. Poor trolls :(

How would you alter the rules to make it more fair?

I don't know of they're designed to be fair exactly, it's about telling a narrative.

They probably suggest to swap over and play it too so both players get the chance to win.

There's also the option to link the games together so the models retains wounds and exhausted might etc throughout the campaign.

The scenarios from the goblin town set are very unfair. Any player with a bit of experience will absolutely dominate with the goblins. It gives you opportunity to pretty much just gang up on any handful of dwarves with reinforcements constantly piling on.

I dont believe many are balanced at all....although, in my topic where you commented, I believe those are.....

For example though, the unbalanced ones....the first in the new hobbit book is like Azog, Fimbul and Narzug with 10-12 hunters vs beorn in the middle of the map......

Hes the only one who gets full movement, but one heroic strike after another.....all he needs to do is lose one fight, and Azogs special rule murders him in a turn......
