Hey all,

While I was poking through my new copy of the Mordor sourcebook today, I noticed something very odd on the first "battle-spread", aside from the obvious photoshopping errors (but those are beside the point now)...there were pictured five Rohirrim, two normal Riders, one Rider with a banner, and two Royal Guards.

And while I was looking aimlessly, I noticed something weird:

The Riders of Rohan have different horses than what comes in the set. Upon further inspection, they are different entirely from the ones ridden by the banner carrier and Royal Guards feautrued on the same page!

Don't believe me? Take a look:

The ones in question are circled in red. Now, at first thought, I assumed they used the old metal Harad Raider horse, as it's bulkier than the "standard" plastic horses, but the Harad Raider horses never had thier back leg stick out like these ones do.

I was planning on getting a plastic box of KoMT to have some variety in my Rohirrim horses, but did GW make figures they have no intention (not due to a casting error *couch4thMordorUruk-haicough*), or are they from another manufacturer, or did they steal horses from Warhammer and slightly cinverted them, further making this game "Warhammery"?

Thanks for looking,
Wolfy

That's what I thought for a minute, but looking again, the heads and tails don't match either of the two given. The new KoMT horses don't have new tails, so that sort of throws that option out the window.

I personally am thinking more and more that they just Photoshoped it...there are some pretty crummy PSing errors on that same page (a Warg with two bases comes to mind), so...

Hmmm...interesting. They are different, and not just 2 different models mixed together, but I think the riders are some we already have aren't they?

That is intriguing. The pose is almost identical to a standard Rohan horse, but you're right, the tail is different and the head is turned towards us.

Curious.

I can't imagine that they would remake the plastic sprue for an almost identical horse, but pose does suggest a split horse.

Can't explain it. But I expect a Rohan suppliment book at some point, so we could be seeing horses from something coming soon.. we could speculate about plastic Outriders since £12 each is frankly ridiculous at the moment.

Or they are models that were never released - and were available to the design department who put this image together.

Well spotted, maybe they will be coming out with the new Rohan book?

Also why make plastic outriders, they are not supposed to be a troop choice, they are supposed to be heroes.
Unless you have the gamling/outrider army, but that would be very low on numbers.
And if you do that I think you should pay for a good army , like Dol Amroth.

You're talking nonsense, the Outriders are only 15pts - they're cheaper than Royal Guard! They are absolutely a troop choice. I plan to have at least 12 in my army - that would be £144 in metal or about £24 if they were available in plastic.

just a slight difference in price! i agree that they are a troop choice, is it 1 point more on foot than a Warrior of Rohan with bow? makes the army tougher, ignores the bow limit (although i would, of course be sporting and have 1/3 outriders ) if you have 1/3 outriders, 1/3 Shields and 1/3 shield and spear, that means that a standard S3 opponent has a 1/3 chance of wounding your shieldwall, but only a 1/6 chance of wounding your archers! that alone makes them a troop choice

Given that there were 2 distinct plastic horses on the original Rohan frame, which could be mixed and matched to produce 4 variations, have one more is welcome but I am going to out on a limb and guess that there may be 2 new horses and that the parts may even be compatible with the halves of the existing ones.

let's hope so .. we could have an army of an infinite number of horses posed just different.
