Post subject: | Baltimore Games Day |
This Saturday is the Games Day in Baltimore and I am planning on entering one of my minis in the Golden Demon LotR single miniatures category. Only problem is I am having a little bit of a hard time deciding which model to enter. I am leaning towards Grima Wormtongue but please let me know if you feel one of the other models in my gallery are superior. I personally do not think I have a shot at winning but it is still a great opportunity for a lot of people to see one of my models. Also, are there any other One Ring members attending? |

Grima is a good figure, but if I where you I’d enter the Uruk-hai Shaman with the skulls. The freehand is very good and really highlights his face making it a more distinct figure. The face on the Feral Uruk is so good that if you have a unit you should submit it. |

I'd go with the Troll. |

I'd say the newer uruk shaman. Grima's eyes look a little bit too big. Which category are you thinking of? |

Everyone remember that I am entering in the LotR single miniature category. I am not sure if the Troll can be entered in that one though. Anyway, I’ll certainly take a look at both of the shamans next to Grima. |

And don't forget, there is always the option of adding to the mini. Take a look at the entries for that gamesday in the past and look at yours and see how you can change what you have done to make it close to a winner. |

Enter more than one category and take a bunch of them? The very best of luck, whichever way you decide to approach it. |

Thanks for the suggestions but I will pass on that route. I like the style I do my minis in and I really have no interest in trying to mimic another painter’s work even if it is “better”. In fact, I don’t care about winning. I just want people to see the best example I can offer of my painting style but I am just not sure what to submit… I still really like my Grima model although the new Uruk Shaman and Uruk Captain models are arguably better examples (since they are Uruks and that is what I mostly paint). BilboOfTheWhiteTower wrote: Got alot of nice ones in there....how bout the Uruk-hai Battering Ram? Thanks and the Battering Ram is an option but, like the Troll, I need to check and see if it is eligible for the single minis category. The model still gives me nightmares though. It was so hard to put together… Dorthonion wrote: Enter more than one category and take a bunch of them? The very best of luck, whichever way you decide to approach it.
I could do that but that would require additional effort (and risk) transporting them up there. Thanks though and I will take one more look through the different categories. EDIT: It does not say if a Troll (or Battering Ram) would be too big for the LotR category. On a side note, Mat Ward is apparently one of the guests at the Baltimore Games Day. Anything you guys want me to say/do to him? |

You could always print out the WotR rules queries thread and force him to answer them. I can't think of anything else printable. |

What to say to Mat Ward? Bring back the Spaniard... As for my suggestion, was merely a suggestion. Not to 'copy' an approach, but to look and learn. I personally don't like overworked miniatures which often win the UKGD, but I still look at how it's done to draw from it. Going and not aiming to win is excellent, from my experiences of UKGD (which have failed miserably), it is hugely rewarding taking part and viewing all the other miniatures. Some of the young bloods are shockingly good. |

Yeah, you get in an hour early! With the upshot that you have blown all your funds before the rest of the masses have got in... |

@John I'll print out a copy of that section and force him to answer all of them right on the spot (probably making a big scene and getting thrown out as well). @Goblin_King Remember that the young bloods cheat though. |

Sam your’s is a clean simply style with and nicely grim palette. Grima is nice, but I don’t think he’s really representative of your style. I’ve never been to a GW event, but I used to go to Origins at Baltimore. Its an nice town for that sort of thing. |

Thanks. Maybe I'll just submit a legionnaire or scout I particularly like. A few of those did turn out particularly well and they embody my painting style. The Siege Captain is another option too... |

I think your siege captain looks very good. |

I think that you should enter with the troll, the siege captain, Lurtz, or with Vrasku. |
