So after watching the movie I realised that the trailer contains footage that was not used in the film. Im willing to be corrected if my memory is playing tricks but here are just a few scenes from the trailer I dont recall being in the film.

Bilbo in rivendell asending a staircase and viewing the shards of narsil.
Gandalf engaged in combat with some small orc/goblin/ooompa looompas.
Gandalf runing down a narrow passage and comming to an abbrupt stop when facing a drop.
Gandalf looking worried and lowering his sword as he studys his surroundings. (looks a lot like dol guldur).

Has anybody else noticed this?

Maybe this is because of the lenght of the movie and was it all cut of, I think it will surely be in the Special Extended edition towards the end of 2013. :gandalf: Seems very logic to me.

Yeah that's what I thought too.
The trailer shows quite a few scenes of gandalf off
On his own in a place that looks very much like dol guldor.
I wonder if when he leaves the dwarves he decided to pop
up and have a look round just to see how things are!

I'm sure the extended edition will clear it up.

I noticed that too. Either they are in the extended edition, an upcoming movie, or were cut.

Since they filmed all three movies at the same time it could be scenes from part II or III?

This happened for the LOTR films as well, pieces in the trailers that did not make the final cut.

I noted the missing segments - some may appear in the second film and some may appear in the Extended Edition version. I also have the Chronicles book with the WETA artwork and there is stuff in there that never made it into the cinema release or the trailer but it has been filmed. I am not going to issue any spoilers.

There is also the scene in goblin town when the dwarf with the staff (i forgot who that is) uses is to pull another dwarf up through some scaffolding, that wasn't in the final cut :(

The first trailer (or one of them) had Gandalf introducing all the dwarves, and when he got to Gloin, Gloin was covered in spider-webs. Obviously, this had gotten moved to the second film. The first film was going to go at least to Laketown (one of the Lego sets has them escaping from the Elves), so the early trailers reflect that.

Aye - it is easy to forget they released the first trailer a year ahead of time so the decision to split it into 3 segments had not been finalised.
