when finding reference material for some Mordor Uruk-hai I was painting, I couldn't find any scenes that they were actually in apart from Cirith Ungol. Do we in fact never see them (outside the tower) or have I not looked carefully enough? Have in mind that I do not have the extended versions, and I am not counting the orcs that GW call Morannon Orcs as Mordor Uruk-hai. Thanks |

I am pretty sure that the only time they are in the films is at the tower of Cirith Ungol. |

Interesting - can anyone think of a reason for this (Ican't!) |

I thought there were some crossing the bridge out of Minas Morgul but would have to go back and watch again. But I don't recall seeing them sepcifically at all in the battles to take Minas Tirith. |

Its a common mistake to class Orcs in a different catagory to Uruk-Hai, when infact they are the same. The only difference is that Orcs are smaller and Uruk-Hai are bigger in stature, hence a different name...all in all, the Uruks are still Orcs ! Therefore, with regards to Mordor Uruk-Hai, wherever in the films that you saw servants of The Red Eye, the larger ones were Mordor Uruk-Hai. Obviously Gorbag is the one that stood out in Cirith Ungol. Definition of Uruk-Hai The great soldier-Orcs that first appeared in the late Third Age; they were larger and stronger than their forebears, and could withstand the light of the Sun. |

I am aware that uruks are only a breed of orc. When I refered to Mordor Uruk-hai, I meant only those which wear the particular armour and dark cloaks which we see at Cirith Ungol even though there are many other Mordor Uruks in the film (Peter Jackson refers to the orcs which GW call Morannon orcs as Uruk-hai). Sorry for the confusion. In fact not all big orcs are Uruk-hai anyway - Uruk-hai are a particular breed which are taller, stand straighter and are not afraid of sunlight. For example Beleg when he asks for a sword from Thingol says that the orcs have become larger and their armour is too thick for his bow (but these could not be Uruk-hai which only came in the third millenium of the third age to overrun Ithilien). In short I am not quite using the word accurately - I am just using it to refer to the orcs that look like the GW models called "Mordor Uruk-hai". But lets not quibble about it anymore... can anyone think why the Uruks I have just refered to can only be seen in the Tower at Cirith Ungol? |

Maybe because PJ only had a limited budget? |

Because although they were tolerant of sunlight, they suffered from terrible home sickness, so couldn't go very far. |
