I can't find anywhere on the internet that has it so I can't possibly comment. Seems a shame but from all the stuff i've seen (production videos and trailers) it looks great, so I'm not going to let this dampen my feeling for the Hobbit.

Well, I can't be bothered by comments like "it takes away that warm feeling of film"

The projector man says that watching the 48fps is the same as when he first saw blu-ray. It gave him this uneasy feeling. I remember when I first saw a blu-ray movie, everything kind of looked fake and unrealistic because the image is so sharp and clear that the special effects stuck out like a sore thumb.

Anyway this article is about the technical aspects of the movie and not a critique on the acting or story. Mainly about the use of the new 48 frames per second technology.

If the frame-rate is the only thing that people don't like about the movie, then there should not be anything to worry about. It is not hard to convert the movie to a 24 fps format if you prefer to watch it that way, and as the article said, they are not going to be able to play it at 48 fps in every theater. What I'm worried about is that
Quote:
The movie stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins; his character meets a young Frodo and they journey together to Middle Earth.

lolwut?

Thanks!

The "Bilbo meets Frodo and journeys to middle-earth" thing makes me question the integrity of this article.

I dislike blu-ray for taking away the distance between movie and reality. And it sounds like those frame rates will be even more realistic. This does leave me worried...:/ Also, for God's Sake, if Frodo is coming with Bilbo, this movie is going to be a catastrophe.. But This is just some stupid article and the big man has done it before, so I still believe he's going to do a great job.^^

At a industry event screening in April, 2012, ten minutes of 48fps footage was described as receiving "an underwhelming reaction at best".[143] While Variety stated that the footage "looked distinctively sharper and more immediate than everything shown before it, giving the 3D smoother movement and crisp sharpness", it also reported that it lost "the cinematic glow of the industry-standard 24 fps" and that "human actors seemed overlit and amplified in a way that many compared to modern sports broadcasts [...] and daytime television".[144] One projectionist complained that "it looked like a made-for-TV movie".[145]

Wikipedia says the same thing...:(

Wikipedia is user editable so someone probably just copied the article. I'm not one to take a movie critic's opinion until I see it myself. I have a brain! I'm not a number! I'm a free man! :P

There is a more favourable review of the 10 minutes here:
CAUTION - MOVIE SPOILERS HALF WAY DOWN
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/04/27/55378-hobbit-footage-review-massive-spoilers-full-coverage-analysis/#more-55378

It also deals with some of the characters and their appearances, but also warns you when that is about to happen.

We will all know in December, folks. The only critic that matters is the wee one you carry around in your head.

Exactly. The papers need some news to talk about, so they have to find something to complain about, even if it's that the movies are too good.

Let's wait until it comes out before passing judgement. PJ still has loads of post-production to do, so the film will look different to how it does in the current clips.

I don't believe any old carp published by the media and especially when it's a dig at the master Peter Jackson! I have faith in him and his team that he can build on the LOTR trilogy and do these two tales justice! Cannot wait to see them in the cinema! :D
