Warning - Potential spoilers! Only just noticed this, but at the battle of East Gate in The Hobbit movie we see actually see Dain slaying Bolg... I obviously recognised prior to that the differences in movie and book plot, but have they simply just swapped Bolg and Azog around then, simply so that Thorin's antagonist is actually the orc that killed his grandfather and not his son? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6wiRwOhnhk Just putting this here because I'm sure I've seen members talking about Bolg appearing in one of the next two movies... Looks like Azog will remain our main antagonist to that storyline right to the battle of five armies in the final movie. edit: watch from 0:20 to 0:23 |

I think that is actually a young Dwalin slaying some random orc captain... |

Normally someone would say 'read the books' at this point but PJ & Co. have a habit of treating them a bit like the Rirates Code - not so much rules, more a set of guidelines. I don't care - roll on December 2013. |

Yeah it's definitely Dwalin. Whether or not it's Bolg seems to be a bit of a debate over the various forums but even if it is he doesn't have the metal plates in his head from all the promo shots (a quick Google search is your friend) implying that if it is him he survived with bad injuries. He's not been dropped, smart money says he features in the Dol Guldor segment. When it was 2 films he would have been in the first film, when it was split into 3 he got pushed into the second movie, the figures etc. were already produced before the change hence their early release. My guess is he shows up in the 2nd movie as an adversary to Gandalf in Dol Guldor, Azog will be killed after the barrel escape causing Bolg to march on the Lonely Mountain. |

Everything in the hobbit rulebook suggests that Thrain will kill Azog. In movie terms this works, Azog's death fails to satisfy Thorin's vengeance, highlighting his boisterousness to the audience, and causes him to initiate a Richard III style kamikaze strike against Bolg in the vague hope of achieving some glory. This gets Fili, and Kili killed. Their deaths make Thorin realize how stupid he has been, and orders a full retreat from his company, perhaps staying behind to hold off some orcs while Dain/Beorn move in to rescue him and kill Bolg. |

You could well be right but I think that Thrain's Blood Feud rule is meant to represent him at the height of his power at the Battle of Azanulbizar. At the time of the Hobbit movies Thrain is insane in the dungeons of Dol Guldor and I doubt he'll be in any fit state to kill Azog. Still, maybe Gandalf will work his Theoden-exorcism magic on him and he'll sort his life out and avenge Daddy. Who knows? All any of us can do is speculate at the moment. Tis good fun though. |

Bolg was in the movie credits so it was definatley him in the flashback. I have watched it many times and not seen him appear in any other scene. |

Bolg is listed on the movie toy tie-ins as being the guardian of the dungeons of dol guldur. He shall definitely feature more in the movie where the white council assault it. |

Since it's all speculating I think that in some point in the second movie Azog will be slain and Bolg will take his place |

Its definitely him! But I am sure we will see him built up as a scarier version after Bolg is no doubt slaughtered in the desolation of Smaug! Talking of which, from the scale of the two films, Smaug should pretty much dwarf a Mumak! |

Looks like Bolg from that clip, but I have to say, I didn't spot him on either of the two times I saw it in the cinema. And that is Dwalin's Epic Flashback Mohawk! (moment of silence and respect) You can tell from the two axes he wields. I still have high hopes for Billy Connolly's Dain. Apparently he will be sporting a mohawk, but the look I want to see is more like Thror: Epic Braided Beardyness! |

That does indeed sound co-el! I have to my shame only just realised that the Mohawk sporting dwarf is Dwalin! I was hoping for another named character with special rules! Woops. |

It does look like Dwalin with a bit more hair on top. Having said that, it might be just PJ reusing an actor who knows how to fight to take a role in a scene and hope nobody notices. Though how he could think that of Tolkien fans I will never know. |

No, it's Dwalin. They even make a point of him in the background when Balin goes to Thorin. He also has the head tattoos and is clearly his face The shaven head look is to show a passage of time. Haircuts/lengthening/colour change is an easy way to show a passage of time for a character - I should know, I've had to shave to film scenes earlier in a film before. |

Yes it does look like him and it is definitely the actor. I just wondered if he was being used in a dual role that's all. I'm sure you are correct about this having thought about it. I hope they don't mess about with things too much. Anyway - Azog survives despite what PJ thinks otherwise I wouldn't be posting on here :-P |

I was thinking that Bolg could be killed. But the Necromancer brings him back to live. If you look at at the photo: http://heirsofdurin.files.wordpress.com ... obbit2.jpg you can see ribs and the metal plates could be because of the wounds he suffered during the battle with Dwalin. Also Thrain is seen fighting Gandalf in the trailer. Didn't know that. |

Those aren't his ribs, but could be the plates are for him being brought back. I doubt it and think it's just a crude version of stitching wounds, but I'm just guessing |
