Coming soon, to a book shop near you. I for one am excited. One of my favourite stories translated by my favourite author. Whoaaaaa. I guess you only have to look at my avatar to guess at my proclivities! |

Simply FANTASTIC! I will have to see how well it stands up to Seamus Heaney's unconquerable retelling, but let's face it, Tolkien would never go far wrong! |

I own a copy of Seamus' translation. It is indeed awesome. I'm very curious to see how this translation compares. |

It was written in the 20's as well, so I expect it to have a somewhat archaic feel to the language. I'll also be very interested to see if there's any trace of his later style. Most of all, I will be interested to see which parts of the story, what imagery and ideas he stresses, and sees as important/beautiful. It's also worth mentioning that he never thought it was worthy of publication, so I will certainly be reading it with that in mind. Having read a fair few of the Unfinished Tales though, I take his opinion of what was worthy of publication with a pinch of salt! Anyway, as professor of Anglo-Saxon studies at Oxford, and one of the world's most loved authors, I have a feeling he was up to the challenge! |
