On Amazon.com it's listed as releasing on the 24th March:
http://www.amazon.com/Hobbit-Battle-Arm ... ive+armies

And for some reason, those of us on this side of the pond get it on the 20th of April, which is irritating:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hobbit-Battle-A ... ive+armies

Digital release in the US is the 6th of March, I think, and the 6th of April in the UK.
Still, good to have something else to count down to. I can't wait to see it again!

Hmm hopefully they will be releasing the extended film earlier than the previous ones ! For me personally, the theatrical versions aren't worth it :( I would rather wait longer for the more complete edition

In this case especially so, most of the trailer was not in the film. So many things were changes late in the game that I don't even know what Peter Jackson filmed and where he was going with it and why the huge amount of changes. Even if the scenes never get put back in the film I would like them to be in the Appendix of the extended (though 4 hours of Gandalf interviews and not liking green screens and actors laughing at the the dailys on set is all well and good, I just want more than that, give me all the deleted scenes like everyone else on the planet does).

I realy thought it interesting when Peter Jackson had that internet Q & A where they were going to show the trailer after for the first time (this was AUJ and trailer for DoS) and they showed 30 takes of Bilbo talking about never venture east again and again...and Peter talking about how the actors give him so many different takes to work with.... This scene was not in the theatrical or the extended edition. Go figure that waste of time.

I shall of course buy the EE as soon as it's out, and after that never watch the original version again, but for now I just want to see the film again. It was amazing enough at the cinema even with various parts 'missing', so in this case I'm more than happy to buy it twice.

That's my plan as well. Not immediately, as my first viewing will take it on its own merits, but the close-to-20-hour marathon will certainly happen!

That's called karma. Y'all got the theatrical release almost a week ahead of the US. This is just repayment + interest.

of course...you can also download it right now digital HD and not have to wait nor pre order anything and be watching the film right now. Since this one was the worst of the bunch and I still have to wait for the EE version, I may download it later tonight and not buy the disc until the EE Blue ray is released. I do watch the films way too many times, they are entertaining, just have to pull myself out of Hobbit expectations and put my SciFi entertainment hat on.

I did not go to see it in the local cinema (various reasons) so any Blu-ray will do (but not headache inducing 3d).
I just do not feel any sense of excitement about BoT5A as portrayed in the trailers and various snippets on Youtube. I feels too cartoonish to me, OTT. Too light. The Dol Guldur bit looks great - buttocks firmly clenched for that - but troll-mounted catapults hurling rocks that weigh about 15 - 20 times as much as any catapult can manage is wearing a bit thin (PJ did it in RoTK as well. The defensive catapults would have been more likely to use bags of cabbage sized rocks to hit more targets).

This will be the first I won't but. I have Netflix and it will be out on there by the summer. They are also enhancing some channels up to 4k and as I have a 4k TV then its a no brainer for me.

Watched this film 3 times this weekend (I downloaded it to my digital collection on Flixter). It is really a shame here, there are actually many great scenes but they are framed in such a chaotic mess that they are lost. I hope that the extended edition slows the pace down and adds all of what it is missing, both suspense and some drama... there is plenty of action/killing but if there is more seconds of that to add then I won't complain as long as the other stuff is extended.
The Bilbo and Thorin death scene is still fantastic though.

didn't even sigh nor blink for fili or kili though, and Tauriel I felt still didn't sell me on a single shred of love between them... so those scenes could use some more work if they want to sell this story arc at all.
