Hey One-Ringers,

Last night I was having some nostalgic thoughts about the lord of the rings fellowship of the ring, and suddenly remembered Bilbo scared me so much when he changes into that semi-gollum for a second or so, that I couldn't sleep the night after, and couldn't look at that scene for another full year. :o (I was 10 years old)

So I was wondering, was I the only child who absolutely hated that scene? :P

Nope not at all, I hated that bit when I was small too. I was rather scared of the Ringwraiths a bit too in the first film. Was around the same age as you were too. Didn't have nightmares about it - but it creeped me out pretty bad. Didn't watch the rest of the films untill 2-3 years later too.

Haha my dad asked if I wanted to come with him to watch the second part, and I felt just a little scared, but then my younger brother said: Yep I'm going too!
I couldn't let that happen now could I?;)

I'm glad I did go, from that point onwards, I turned all LOTR-geek.;)

I was more scared of Shelob.

My seven year old brother skips any scene with Gollum, which I've told him is ridiculous as Gollum is such a prominent character.

That did give me a jump, so did that scene where gandalf first touches the ring and you get that flash of sauron. Shelob used to scare me alot as well, none of it does now.

I found that scene really scary myself as it's not just a hideous, mindless monster like shelob. It's a nice, personal character who is transformed into a completely different creature corrupted by the ring. I didn't mind shelob too much as it's just a bit of classic horror but that bit's made me dread the Rivendell scene since the first time I watched it :S.

Yeah, when I watched the movies with other people, I took a "strategic break" to get something to drink when the rivendell scene started.:p

I suppose that, when you're younger, it's just a random creepy moment PJ threw in to frighten poor children and give parents a weapon for bedtime, but in retrospect it's a very symbolic moment, and explains why the Ring had to be destroyed.

Psychology aside, yes, it scared the bejaysus out of me. :-D
