Here's a simple Banoffee Pie recipe that anybody can do. It tastes amazing. Ingredients: 2-3 Ripe Bananas 300g packet of Hobnobs 100g of Butter 1 Tbsp of Ground Ginger 1 Tin of Nestle Carnation Caramel 350ml of Double Cream 1 Tbsp of Icing Sugar 50g of Dark Chocolate 1-2 Tbsp of Cinammon Method * Put the packet of hobnobs inside a freezer bag and make sure it's sealed. Beat the living daylights out of them until they're mostly fine. Leave some larger chunks in for texture. * Melt the butter in the pan. Add the biscuit and the ginger, and when combined, press into a 24cm baking tin with a removable bottom. * Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden. * Allow to cool, and then spread the caramel over the base. * Put it in the fridge to chill for 1 hour. * Cut the banana into slices and top the caramel with them. * Whip up the double cream and icing sugar until it forms stiff peaks when you lift the whisk out. Alternatively, put it in a food processor until it holds its shape. * Top the banana with the whipped cream. Grate dark chocolate over the top, and sprinkle cinammon over it also. For best results, refrigerate the chocolate before grating, to avoid a melty mess. |

If you didn't live across an ocean, I'd have to come and swipe some of that! I can make damn nearly anything for a meal, but I'm not too comfortable with doing desserts... |

Looks fabulous. I hear the sound of the chef making breakfast. I don't cook much but I make up for that in washing up and first clearing the plates by eating all the food that is cluttering them up. |

Me wants! Dutch Apple Pie (OK, can I do this by heart? Result: No, I can't): Ingredients: 300 grammes of flour (of whatever kind) 230 grammes of butter 150 grammes of sugar 1 egg 6 large apples 100 grammes of raisins Quite a lot (just throw it on, you can't add too much) cinnamon sugar Mix all the top paragraph ingredients together, knead it into a smooth dough, and cut this into three equal parts. Place two on a marble slab (or something else the dough won't stick to) and roll it flat and thin. Place a baking tin over it, and press it down so the shape of the tin is left in the dough. Cut this out and lay it over the bottom of the tin (if you muck it up, just pat it smooth with your hands). Then cut stripes as large as your tin (5-6 cm for the amount of apples mentioned) and press these along the sides of the tin, making sure they blend in well with the bottom. Then clean all the apples, cut them into small pieces, throw in the raisins, and add cinnamon sugar untill everything looks brown from above. Mix well, and add more sugar (this time a bit less). Mix it again and put the mixture in the tin. Cut the third part of the dough into 1cm (1/2 inch) wide strips, and lay these on top of the apples in a weaving fashion (basically, make crosses). Put it into a 150 degrees (C) oven, and wait for 40-45 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes, remove the tin and enjoy! |

I'll post a recipe soon, but for now I found a delicacy from our good friend, for a long time part of the moderation team here on the site, the very talented now married, Temet Nosce. It's obviously high cuisine. |

I'll have a search round to see if anyone has a baking tin here in the halls at uni, otherwise I might need to buy a cheap one somewhere. mmmm apple pie! |

Unfortunately this stuff all looks sweet, i am more of a savoury chef, pork loin wrapped in basil leaves and parma ham cooked in white wine is one of my favourites. |

I just watched the Temet Nosce video... takes me back to student days and some of the awful garbage that my drunken friends consumed for reasons largely attributed to seeking a hangover cure. How more of them did not end up getting their stomachs pumped I do not know. The other thing this reminds me of is the episode of 'Bottom' where Richie comes in and finds Eddie eating stuff from the fridge. He asks Eddie what he is doing. Eddie replies 'I'm eating lard'. 'Why/' asks Richie. 'Because I am too drunk to make a fry-up' is the response. More real food folks, please. No... err... concoctions. |

Looks like we have some talented bakers in the group! I won't be able to contribute to this thread, as I was banished from "her" kitchen shortly after we married, and in the ensuing ten years have summarily forgotten how to prepare anything more complicated than a bowl of oatmeal or cold cut sandwiches. My wife is a fantastic cook, however, so I'm happy with the arrangement! |
