I am an avid music fan, and one of my favorite -musically related- pastimes is debating (with myself), which are my favorite music records and why. So I thought I'd start a topic where everyone has to name their personal top (insert a number of your preference) albums. Adding the rationale behind your choices would be even better . So here I go with my favorite 10. Bob Dylan: Another Side of Bob Dylan (1964) I think this record - and not his sophomore one- is the epitome of his acoustic phase. Herein are songs characterized by his idiosyncratic and absurd sense of humor; scathingly bitter vilifications (somehow I never had an issue with Dylan's jibes against whomever); and beautiful poetic imagery: "My Back Pages" is brutally ingenious, and "To Ramona" is one of my favorite Dylan songs. Bob Dylan: Blonde on Blonde (1966) For fear of sounding verbose I'll succinctly say of the record: a majestic, and beguiling tapestry, though the third side in not on par with the other three. Kinks: Face to Face (1966) And they only had one full-time songwriter . David Davies almost single-handedly wrote an album full of little pop diamonds, whose simplicity make the feat all the more astounding. The most famous song of the record is "Sunny Afternoon", which is unfortunate for most are on par with it. Face to Face could be described as Revolver's -slightly less gifted- cousin. I highly recommend it. The Doors: The Doors (1967) With its mix of mesmerizing gloominess, blues bravado, and inventive musical arrangements this record made the Doors nationwide starts almost overnight (well not exactly, but anyway), and is undoubtedly among my top 10. Well this is it for today. Six more albums to go. I am looking forward for your opinions! |

Frank Black and the Catholics: Frank Black and the Catholics This album was recorded live to 2 Track. With only minimal edits (2?). A breath of fresh air from Pixies, and an amazing reboot from the Solo albums. Man or Astroman: Eeviac Album beamed to earth straight from outer space! These guy's rip the lid off an Apple Stylewriter II and make it ROCK! White Stripes: White Blood Cells C'amon now...! What really needs to be said about this album??? |

I am not a Dylan authority, but I do own one album. John Wesley Harding. So great. It's short, simple, and rocks. It serves as a reminder in my collection that I have a lot to learn still. |

I'll be thinking about this all day. Historically PJ Harvey - Stories from the city, stories from the sea Manic Streeet Preachers - The Holy Bible REM - Automatic for the People The Smiths - Louder than Bombs (technically a compilation) Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate Camera Obscura - Underachievers Please Try Harder Scott Walker - Scott 4 Richard Hawley - Coles Corner Kid Creole and the Coconuts - Tropical Gangsters Tom Waits - Closing Time I'm gonna regret that list in about 10 minutes. I dont even listen to half of that anymore, but it's probably representative of all the albums that I've obsessed over at some point in life or other. Excluding compilations, box sets or greatest hits. |

Hmm, good topic! I'd have to say Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd Hot Fuss - The Killers Those are all albums I can listen to start to finish without even a thought of hitting "skip." |

Metal Church: Blessing in Disguise, the singer retired after two albums but some songs on this album as a guitarists and metal fan just set off atomic awesome vibes in my head. What else can I say? Queensryche: Operation Mindcrime. What a great concept album, later efforts and the current split up I could care less, I love this album and so QR will always be cool to me. Slayer: Reign in Blood... Seen Slayer 5 times, bet. when Raining Blood gets played you can expect to feel like being in a washing machine with 5000 other people letting go of all their energy in one huge pile of metal anarchy. \m/ RIP Death: The Sound of Perseverance.. Reason, if you played metal guitar you would know the answer. Check out the song Voice of the Soul, just guitar wow, there are more technical songs, but this is beautiful metal style guitar. RIP man. |

No particular albums, but Eminem, Daft Punk, Savant, Deadmau5 and Calvin Harris are pretty good. |

This is a tough one due to wide ranging interests but here's some off the top of my head: Yes - Going for the One Black Sabbath - Eternal Idol (or maybe Tyr) Led Zeppelin - Presence Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers Magnum - Storyteller's Night Genesis - Duke Danzig - II (or III) Septic Flesh - Communion Mayhem - De Mysteriis Darkthrone - Underground Resistance Frontline Assembly - Implode KFMDM vs Skold - S/T White Zombie - Astro Creep Stratovrious - Elements Pt. 1 Yngwie Malmsteen - Trilogy There's so many more as my tastes change with the wind but I'd be happy if I was on a desert island (with power and a CD player) with those. |

Most Pearl Jam albums but I'd be torn between Ten and Vs for my fav. Some unreal tracks on both. Black has to be my most beloved song though. A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step Although I prefer individual songs more from their first album, (Orestes, Judith, the hollow & 3 libras) I love the variation in this album and the overall concept. Temple Of The Dog - Temple Of The Dog Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning Alice In Chains - Unplugged Live - Throwing Copper I'm very much a nineties to now listener and although I do enjoy the older stuff, it just doesn't resonate with me like my little musical niche does!! Currently I'm playing Two Steps From Hell and Birds of Tokyo to death. Random but that's the way I like it!! |

So, I was inspired by some peoples lists here, since I do actually listen to a lot of different music, just tend to focus on metal. Really got into some old Red Hot Chilli Peppers this week, Real men don't kill Coyotes is still in my head , thanks SuicidalMarsbar and Lord Hurin for listing them. Crucium Giger, I am a huge fan of Skold's older work from Shotgun Messiah, I always wanted his solo album and can't find it, but the album KMFDM Vrs Skold is on your list so I may have to check that out as that may be easier to find. thanks for listing that. |
