Pretty straightforward poll here. Share your thoughts here as well. Personally I miss them, and slowly looking for deals on them. Found a couple on a site and printed the PDF's off in B&W. No color, no big deal for me. Though I like the painting guides in them. So if I found them for reasonable cost or could trade for them, I will acquire. The scenarios are thought out and really a "skirmish". I think more so than the "Warband" model that is in play now. It's not a dig on the new, but I would totally run the old ones the old way any day. On thinking on the painting guides, that is very much missing from the range now. What a great resource for novice and advanced painters. You can really get the feel of the designers intentions at that time. |

I "miss" they do not do the same format as the old books, but i don't miss them as i have them all and still play games from them and constantly refer to the painting guides. The same goes for the old WD and BGIME, brilliant to look back through. |

Yes and no. I don't miss needing so many books to have the profiles and rules for games, it was getting to be too much. The One Rulebook was out one month before it was no longer the one rule book, the next source book/supplement had new profiles. I have always had more fun playing a set scenario based on the book or film than a point match, for that reason the supplements were fantastic, even the original three rule books were worth a walk through (still hold that nostalgic feeling for them). I also loved the photo's of new models/armies with new scenery made from the teams at GW. The Easterling buildings were awesome. The little conversion tips were nice too. I miss the whole full on support experience as well. The little brochure in the box sets with pictures of models. The section devoted to SBG in WD (back when it was a good mag). They really gave it 110% in those early years. |

It seems I'm going to be the first to chime in here who didn't start playing SBG until after the first Hobbit rulebook was published. I do sometimes find myself staring at old profiles, and wondering what the game was like before s4 troops were everywhere. There are some really cool old profiles in the game, and I hear people say "that's not really viable, Morannon Orcs will tear them apart." There's something especially problematic if you came to this game out of a love for Tolkien's books, and a desire to reconstruct the events from those books. The characters and units which figured prominently in the books got profiles early on, and then Games Workshop later added in more obsure profiles into the game. That would be fine, if not for the fact that newly printed profiles tend to be stronger than old profiles. The result is that a whole slew of very obscure (or completely apocryphal) units are now very commonly taken, and many units that should be very common in middle earth are very unpopular in peoples warbands. |

I too miss them. I have them all but one. When it appears on ebay for a non-ridiculous price I will get that one too. |

Lol the poll has one no. Yes. I miss the old EVERYTHING from GW. Theyve absolutely dont a 180 and walked away from us in terms of support. The new books I love for concise army building but the old ones were really cool! A lot of personality put into them. |

Umm .. looking at the movies... there could be a dozen of the old style scenario books to each of the three movies... which would make gaming a consumer fest to stay somewhat current. I mean I understand we can get the profiles later on without the points costs so we can understand the enemy... But in the latest film I see new figures for "the nine" on there way.. also the new half troll, bigger cave trolls with catapults on thier backs. Gundabad orks, perhaps new GW gundabad goblins? What happens to the black shields? And I suppose with the re printing of the source books ... maybe these will include these units... or they may just have new set of five army books? Who knows. But the mater is you need less books to cover the armies available. |

My biggest problem is that the covers have fallen off the books |

Yes I miss them, but no because between the SBG players at my club we have all of them between us. They are great for inspiration. |
