Hey

I'm going to paint Barrow Wights. I like the colour scheme from GW:

In the Fotr journey book they use drybrushing:
- Skull White
- Wash Codex Grey:ShadowGrey
- DB Skull White
but I'm thinking to give it a try without drybrushing.
Does anybody know where I can find a painting guide or give me some tips?
Also other colour schemes are welcome!

Thanks

I know very few people who have ever managed to achieve a GW colour scheme using the methods that they claim they have used in the books or magazines. I personally doubt that the GW Barrow Wights were actually painted using drybrushing (not the spectre colours anyway). I don't know about any guides at the moment but I would try:

* Basecoat of Shadow Grey,
* Badab Black Wash,
* Layer Shadow Grey leaving the darkest parts from the wash in the deepest recesses,
* Layer 4:1 Shadow Grey:Skull White leaving the previous coat of Shadow Grey in the recesses,
* Layer 3:1 Shadow Grey:Skull White on the higher areas of the Barrow Wight leaving the previous coat in the recesses,
* Highlight 2:1 Shadow Grey:Skull White on the raised areas of the Barrow Wight,
* Highlight pure Skull White on only the very highest points.

(remembering to keep all paints nicely thinned with water of course)

If you didn't want to spend as long doing so many intermediate layers of highlighting you could cut out a few of the middle steps. I have never tried my method above so take it with a pinch of salt, it's just a couple of tips based on how I would go about painting it myself, so whether or not it works is an entirely different matter.
