Back of Gondor Shield - colour?

Guys, I have finally got stated on painting some of my Gondor troops, statring with the WoMT...
One thing I am unsure about, the backs of their shields.

I can see GW paints them plain black... but I was looking for evidence from the movies, but its darn hard to find an image where the back of the shield is shown clearly, in good light...

I am wondering whether the shield would have been wooden backed with a metal front 'skin', or would the whole shield have been one piece of metal, with the back just painted black, maybe as a weather proofing against rust?

Thoughts?

I have always painted/ left them black. Normally due to forgetting but they look better than silver IMHO.

In one tutorial in the Tomes of Wisdom section the shields have wooden backs. I'm not sure if I like it better then black, it's good for some variety though.

Answer my own question - I went and had a rummage in my gamesroom bookshelves and dug out an old copy of Chris Smiths Lotr Weapons and Warfare...
Sure enough, the Shield was wooden , long vertical pieces, stained a dark brown, with brown leather handle straps. The front of the shield was not metal skined , but covered in black leather (upon which the silver tree motif was painted), with a top and bottom metal strip.

So there you go. :-)

Yes thats just about spot on, though the gloves appear to have been Black/Dark Grey aswell.
