Hi sorry if this has been posted I looked 15 pages back and couldnt find anything. Just wondering if there are any tricks to these shields, and what the best way would be to paint them.

For myself I paint the whole shield the main color (so for traditional MT that would be black) and then very carefully paint the raised tree and other decorations. This can be accomplished by dry-brush or if you have a steady hand just careful detailing

Yep, pretty much what JamesR said. The only other thing would be if you are doing a silver drybrush then do a black wash to go over any spots you got on the shield by accident.

If you're going to do a white tree, make sure you keep the paint fairly watered down, if it's too thick, the bristles will drag over the raised details and flick onto parts of the shield you wanted to keep black.

I did it the other way, base coat silver, then fill-in the black, found it was much crisper looking and the tree less fiddly to paint.
