Good clear tutorials there sid. useful additions. Interesting to see scale mail done in separate strips. I've always done it with one piece, pressing stepped horizontal lines in with the flat of a knife blade before shaping the individual scales.

I started with Troll Bodies (well after much converting experience) as I thought it would a good starting point to learn. It did help, but in moving to smaller scale, I am still having trouble with faces, they all end up looking the same (and not very good), I can pass it off on Uruks but I want to get to more fare peoples. What are the best tutorials for that in your opinions? Or advice. Is it just one of those things where I should do a hundred in drill fashion and really get experience?

The same face can look extremely different depending on what you add to it. Differing beards, moustaches and eyebrows will make a big change in appearance, as will any headwear or the way the hair is drawn. Try experimenting with faces that have different expressions. Shouting, Scowling etc. Try a thin face or a round face. Theres a lot of scope to change stuff although the basic principles are the same.

I've just found this handy guide for making your own sculpting tools. It's very detailed and informative, and makes it seem very achievable to make high quality tools with fairly common/easily obtainable items. It goes on to give some ideas for techniques, and how you could make tools for specific textures (such as a quirky three bladed knifey thing for sculpting large areas of fur quickly). Be warned - it's long!
