Hey, I am planning on entering a painting competition in my local store, but I am looking for something to make the base a bit more special than the normal sand and gras.. Something easy to do is preferred thanks! |

Maybe a small piece of branch from a tree or even a water... |

A fairly easy thing to do is add a rock for your miniature to stand on ( you'll have to cut away the bit of metal that slots into the base 1st tho) The rock Lurtz is stood on is just a piece of cork - the long tufts of grass are "field grass" available from most model shops . The small green plant near Lurtz's foot is Lichen again available from model shops - the good thing about Lichen is usually you get lots of it and its fairly cheap. The large green plant behind Lurtz is dolls house furniture (I borrowed it from my daughter) this stuff is quite expensive so I tend to use sparingly - its available from Hobbycraft. The skull is from the warhammer undead sprue. The best thing about making scenic bases is theres no right or wrong way of doing it - keep a bits box of things you can use - for example the bristles from a nail brush make excellent tuftfs of long grass. Hope this helps and happy basing!!! Should post some pics and show us what you come up with. Regards Kev |

Thanks guys! I'll be painting the mounted Glorfindel model. i was wondering a few things: Can I bend the legs of the horse in such a way he looks like he's prancing? And could I cut off the little metal plug that slots into the base, withouth the model falling down? |

You could bend the legs but if you do, do so very carefully and plan how your going to do it before you commence - the more you bend the metal the more brittle and likely to snap it becomes. Also careful what your using to bend it - if you use pliars you sometimes get the teeth from the jaws imprinted in your model.....its very annoying i've lost count of the number of times i've done this ( you'd think i'd learn but hey) As for cutting away the plug --- the plug gives the model a firm attachment to its base - i suppose you could cut it away but the model will not be as secure on its base. I suppose it would depend on how many points you could glue the horse down at the base if you get my meaning. Personally, unless you are planning to bend the leg with the plug on , i wouldn't remove the plug. |

Some limbs would be nice if your evil (or even good) especially the extra severed heads from the troll kit. |

I'm not sure whether this would work, but how about a signpost. It could be pointing the way to Rivendell or something. |

That's an idea I have never heard before, but it's interesting! I'm not sure yet if I will use it this time, but I'll definitely keep it in mind. |
