I am thinking about converting some mounted warriors of Numenor to go with my Mounted Elendil (he's feeling a little exposed with no cavalry to lead) tho it seems to be proving a little difficult to find a mini to do a simple cut and shut conversion. Riders of Rohan are the obvious choice - simply sawing the rider in half and replacing the top half with the upper torso of a numenorian warrior. This sounds simple in theory but after close inspection of the two miniatures I don't think it will work ; For one the numenorians seem smaller than the RoR and once converted would seem errrrrr......can't think of the word....disproportionate. The second reason is the position of the Numenorian shield - it would interfere with the horse unless placed at a pretty strange angle tho this I may be able to get round by twisting the body round to a slightly. Does anybody know of a mounted miniature that I could use instead of RoR for this project - it doesn't have to be Lotr as long as the scale is right I'll give it a go. Any help and suggestions most welcome. Thanks in advance DMS |

Brettonian or empire kngihts may do the job. |

The obvious candidates are the Knights of Dol Amroth. Change the shields and banners, cut down the helmet wings and remove any lingering 'swanniness' that offends the eye, give them a suitable paint job, and you're there. |

I've used numenorians+riders of rohan in a conversion. tough they aren't perfect I think they can go together. If you want to see some pictures they are somewhere on page 7 of my work in progress thread. (see signature) looking forward to seeing what you'll make. |

@Aqan - great i'll have a look at them, thanks for the reply. @Elland - I thought about this and if all else fails I might well go with KoMT - they have a bit too much armour for my liking and would involve filing off some of the detail in the armour and sculpting the numenorian symbol on....it is highly possible that these are the best option. Thanks for your reply and watch this space! |

Another idea instead of filing/sculpting might be to green-stuff a tunic and paint hte symbol on. perhaps make it flow into the legplates and make them the "flaps". Sorry, one cup of coffee this morning and I can't recall the proper terms for the armor. |

LOTR models have "realistic" proportions, while warhammer figures tend to be taller, and (some) have ridicously large proportions. |

I did one using the bottom half of a KoMT (metal Knight and metal Numenorean). Decided not to follow that plan with the rest of mine because of how much effort went into guillotining the poor guys & into sculpting the bottom half to look right. Since then, I've been slowly but surely working from the angle of using a Dremel to rip out enough space from the metal Numenoreans to just re-sculpt them as mounted models. There the only drawback was finding somewhere to work where I could control where the pewter flakes went. |
