Hey guys, just a quick observation that I wondered if anyone else had noticed.

If you look at the Blain and Dain sculpts, the torso, much of the head, armour and arms are identical.

Do you think this is just because they are royalty are so have similar equipment, or did GW just adjust one of the sculpts to make the other?

Linky.

It's not the only model in which they reused the base mold of another model. So yes they adjusted the sculpt of ne to make the other. Have a look ariound, and you may notice some of the others.

Khandish axes and axes of Lossonarch are the same.

Serpent Guards have same lower armour as Dain and Balin.

The horses of Amdur, new Suladan and Khandish Chieftain are the same.

One of the Morannon Orcs is based of 2 of the Haradrim.

The rare Mordor Uruk-hai and one of the new Mordor Uruk-hai come from one of the Uruk-hai Beserkers.

A Khanish Warrior and Lossonarch axeman have the same pose as another Beserker.

Several of the Dunedain are the same as other Dunedain.

Most archers use same base poses.

Haradrim Raider horses from Rohan horses.

Some of the named Ringwraiths come from basic Ringwraiths and/or each other.

If I remember more, I will tell you.

Haradrim king's horse and Aragorn's are exactly the same, and every plastic horse from any set are all the same; just with extra armour and whatnot.

How can you compare man sized models with dwarf sized figures? The Serpent guard and Mauhur are not the same as The Champion and Balin and Dain; just slightly similiar!

Not every horse, just most of the plastic ones.

Some of the metal ones are sculpted to the rider, but as I said eg Suladan/Amdur Khand Chief, some use the same sculpt.

With the Serpent Guards and Dwarf Lords, the lower armour is exactly the same, Dwarves are much wider in proportion to humans. Mauhur and the Champion are not my probem.

- are nothing alike?

You guys are exaggerating, very few are based on the same model, apart from Dain and Balin, horses, and that most plastic set use the same "main body". (I doubt the guy sculpting WOMT bothered spending his time sculpting the same armour 12 times  ) But yes some models are very similar, and some are inspired by others.

One thing that's kinda cool, is that there was one sculptor (can't remember the name of who it was) who sculpted nearly every single hero with the same pose. I could only find one after a quick look-through on the GW page though, Faramir. (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... rod1130308) But I remember several discontinued models with the exact same pose, Haldir and Saruman comes to mind.

Agree on Elves, the metal Haldir's Elves had male bodies whilst the Sentinels have female bodies.

However there are many others. And lots of duplicates of the same one or two poses.

Why shouldn't they?
It keeps the cost low.

There are so many miniatures that look alike.

The used to make the miniatures out of green stuff, armatures and other objects.
Now they sculpt them via a computer program. (correct me if I'm wrong)
But once you have a basic component you can re-use it however you want.

Their poses appear to be the opposite of each...other rather than the same.

Thanks for all the replies above, I knew some of the things mentioned, like horses, but I didn't think people would suggest that, as its common knowledge its the same model.

Not sure about King's champion and Mahur though...I think there just a similar pose, and that there are very few that are nearly the exact same sculpt with just the head or arms changed, like Dain and Balin.

Still, I'd be interested if there is anything else. :)

The Rare '4th' Mordor Uruk-hai is the same as one of the Uruk-hai Beserkers.

It would be great if Balin and Dain had different poses. We'll have to wait until the Hobbit movie.
