Hey guys,

Some of my older models need varnishing to take the shine off them from the old Citadel Inks. What matt varnishes do people use/reccomend?

Cheers as always. :)

Vallejo matt varnish (brush on) has always served me well.

Here in the US, I use Testor's Dullcote.

Ditto for me. I've used Testors Dullcote which is also excellent but does have some naughty additives. You should use a face mask if spraying indoors.

I hope I'm not hijacking the thread but does anyone know if Army Painter's anti-shine matt varnish spray is any good?

CraigHallum,

I use this army painter for all of my lotr with great results. Make sure you shake it plenty and clear the nozzle though, I've only had it happen once in 5+ years but my Theoden was frosted like a flake!

As a related note, which Citadel spray is matte and which is gloss? I have both 'Ardcoat and Purity Seal but forget which is which

'Ardcoat is gloss, which I found out to my dismay some time ago.

That can also be caused by room temperature or if you sprayed outside. Check what the manufacturers recommend.

It was a fairly new can and done inside, so about 100% sure it was user error :/
