Greetings people.

I've been converting some lovely Corsair Reavers in preparation for the Desolation of Stockport.
Most of the models are pretty easy to do, just cut the shield an dreplace with a suitable weapon arm.

Anyway, one of the shield guys has it tucked right in to his chest, making it impossible to cut off without destroying most of the model.

Should I just leave the shield on and try something else like putting a weapon on his back?
Any ideas?

Make his shield a weapon! Put a spike on the front facing out so he can punch with it lol

JamesR, that's actually a good idea.

Cut the arm and shield away altogether and have him as a wounded one arm troop. A bit of blood for the blood god will give a new wound or green stuff some bandage for an older injury.

Well if you cut away the whole arm you could resculpt it. Just depends how competent you are at sculpting.

Just a simple arm swap?

I find that plastic quite easy to work with. Cut away the arm and shield completely, then tidy up with a sharp hobby knife. You'll find that the plastic is quite easy to cut if the knife is sharp. You can also heat the plastic model with hot (but not quite boiling) water for a minute or so, which will soften it up a bit and make it slightly easier to cut.

Then let it cool down and file it smooth if necessary. Finally, just glue on a suitable arm from another model.

Also, if you've got old sprues with extra weapons, horns, pouches etc, that's a good way of covering up an area that looks a bit poor. When you come to paint it, make sure you leave the "poor" area pretty dark, and the pouch or weapon you've stuck on to it much lighter. That way the eye will focus on the glued on part, and not the rough area itself.
