Hi :)

I started work on my Mumak a couple of days ago, and now have it all cut off the sprue and cleaned up, ready for assembly.

Before glueing, I did a dry fit (involving lots of rubber bands and blu tac :? ). Now, from this dry fit, I have noticed the angle that the head naturally fits to the body at, because of the way the neck is moulded. Unfortunately though, this angle doesn't look like it would work for me.

As you can see in the pictures, if the head is at this angle, both the trunk and one of the tusks are too low to the ground. They are actually below the height of the base in the pictures, but that is because of the couple of mm that the blu tac (actually white tac) takes up in the joint, but even when glued, they will still be scraping the height of the base.

This would be ok if I was just doing the mumak on its standalone base, but as this mumak will be in a diorama, I reckon that I will definitely have to do something to raise the height of these (as the tusk hasn't even gotten any spikes on it yet). So basically, I'm looking for some advice on what to do with it. Shall I just cut some of the left side of the neck off, so the head sits at less of an angle? Preferably I don't want a reposition job that requires filling an absolutely massive gap, although of course some filling will be required.

Any help is appreciated, thanks 8)

I don't have personal experience but I have heard that if you flip the neck upside down it lifts the head up.
Kind of like this.

i have made 2 Mumaks, i would say your pictures you must have some excess plastic to remove on the head or neck, the left tusk should be about 1cm off the ground.

Its is easy to convert a Mumak, cut the neck off, turn it upside down and reattach, a lot of green stuff work is needed bit the results are worth it.

You could break the lowest tusk off to resemble a broken one. The trunk could be tackled with taking it off and removing a few mm from the join area before reapplying. A bit of green stuff work would hide the join.

From the look of the second picture you have the head too low. I can clearly see the top of the neck behind the head which should not be the case. It needs to go up 3-5mm I would say.

Good spot Dave, you are right and that would solve most of the issues if not all.

I had never heard of the old neck switcheroo move before - I though everyone just chopped them off and got stuck in with green stuff and other putty. I might give it a go with one of mine.
