Looking to reapply myself to the hobby of paint I got and collecting. So I'm interested in what I should paint. I'm trying to get my abilities back up to do justices on the Smaug model. So short of Smaug what model have you enjoyed painting most? What miniature have you always wanted to see painted? I'm looking for challenging models that will guide to to develop my skills and techniques, which will then help me stay engaged in painting. |

The Hobbit version? I will have a go...The original FOTR Elrond was my first painted miniature in the GW line. |

I find within the lotr range the simpler looking models (Gandalf, Galadriel, etc) are the ones I turn to when I want to test my skills. The simplicity of the design allows me to focus on my technique and there's no where to hide when all you have are long robes. The most challenging model I've painted, again within lotr, was probably armoured Thranduil. I found it very difficult to get any contrast with that dark armour. |

I think this is very much true. I've pulled the foot and mounted Elrond; I will pull out armored Thranduil as well. Definitely some challenging models. You two are definitely what I strive to be as a painter. Without a doubt I'll be modeling some of my paint jobs off of yours--for example I know Elrond is on page 38 of DMS' WIP. I'll post some results. |
