I am working on basing my Minas Tirith army with an Osgiliath look. For the infantry this has mostly just been a gravel looking base with some occasional things added on. Now that I am getting to my knights and mounted heroes I wanted to add something more stable looking to made it look like the horses are not running over gravel. I was thinking of just cutting plastic-card pieces to make some flag or cobblestones but is that really the best option? Does anyone have any experiences or methods that they think work well for this type of thing?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

I'm using thin cardboard rectangles to simulate flagstones on bases. I glue them - as rectangles - to the base with white glue (made for wood and paper), let it dry and then cut along the edges to get a circular shape around the border.
After priming, the edges the flagstones are not as sharp as before, and after painting, they look even more realisitc.
I suggest, give it a try, it's really cheap and easy, and if you don't like the outcome, you can easily remove the cardboard tiles from the base and try another method.

Thanks for the responses guys!
I have head of using a roller or stamp but I have not tried it yet. I don't do much online shopping for my hobby and have not found a roller at my local stores. I will do some tests with cardboard/plastic card and report back with my results in a few weeks. If they don't come out I will break down and try the roller.
