I am new to the game and I have been looking at building an Elven army and thanks to everyone I think I have some good ideas for that. I also think I want an evil force to square off against them and I think Isengard Uruk-Hai is my preference.

The idea with this army is that it hits pretty hard with a lot of Strength 4 models. I should also be able to win some fights with my Pike supports giving me more dice. The next thing is it has decent force of cavalry to protect my flanks. The Shamans can cast Fury early and provide a 6+ ward save to help minimize damage and with two I should be able to cover all of my army. Their transfix ability could come in handy for shutting down pesky Heroes and such later on. My ranged attacks may not win me any ranged wars, but I think some ST 4 attacks could help dwindle some numbers or some wounds/fate.

Here is what I came up with so far, please offer any suggestions you have based on your experiences:

Legions of the White Hand/Isengard Raiders 600

39 Models & 7 Might

Heroes 225

Lurtz 60

Uruk-Hai Captain 65
add Heavy Armour & Shield & Crossbow

Uruk-Hai Shaman 50

Uruk-Hai Shaman 50

Warriors

Uruk-Hai Warriors 150
add Pikes x15

Uruk-Hai Warriors 100
add Shields x10

Uruk-Hai Warriors 55
add X-bows x5

Warg Riders 70
add Throwing Spears x5

Your warg riders will get more benefit from shields than from throwing spears (unless you're facing only elves with S3 bows). IMHO it's also worth it to have a captain to lead them. Cavalry always suffers if they lose priority the turn after they charge, and having a hero to make a heroic move can really help save them. So you might consider swapping Lurtz for Sharku.

Instead of a second Shaman, consider a budget ringwraith. Much more will for Transfixing, not to mention a better chance of casting and other options.

Your captain with shield and xbow won't benefit from the shield for his Defense, though he can still use the "shielding" rule. I'd pick one or the other. If you intend to use him for "hero hunting" in conjunction with the wraith, the shield is a better option. Use the points saved to add Might, Will or Fate to your budget wraith.
