Is Gothmog worth his points? He seems like a complete tank especially if you put him on a warg, 10 attacks on charge!

not for me.
I'd rather take a named ringwraith on fellbeast for only a little bit more points.
And how do you get 10 attacks?
I'd rather think 8 on the charge.

4 on the charge, 8 if he wins and knocks down.

I have used him a few times, the free heroics can be annoying for your opponent. Get him stuck in near their big heroes and watch them blow their might while he gets free heroics.

The free heroics is annoying as hell, must admit I'm curious about wherever it would work when Elendil uses Narsil :P
He is good, but watch out for elven charecters, nothing quite like Gorthmog charging on his warg into Gilgalad who then Kebabs him :P
So he is good, but just be carefull of the elves.

I always play him against Dwarven players who are known for using Shieldbearers. He basically gets free Heroic Fights every turn. Also, against enemies who have less Fight than him, he can always match their Heroic Strikes. I think he is worth his points

Yes and no. Depends how the battle goes Im guessing.....

If you get relentless heroic actions near you, yeah he is, but honestly his fight is low for ties, against great heros.

Average stat line for those points...I mean, 135-thats a lot!

Look in the mordor source book on the page to the right-just what I posted in this same section. Shagrat-

Shagrat is 25 pts less, has 1 less courage(but honestly, if hes near the end with courage checks, your soldiers will run away faster and youre screwed anyway) and he has more strength and more defense. Same everything else. Yeah, his movement is less because hes on no warg, BUT, his special attack which is to knock people down, will give him 6 attacks. I think six is pretty good.

I may be wrong but 3 base warg has 1 base = 4 plus 1 for charging = 5 then double from knockdown

You are mistaken only because the warg's one attack is not added into the equation. You use either the rider or the mounts attacks

As JamesR said, you don't add the one from the Warg, so you only get 4 attacks.

You also don't double the attacks to 8. What you get if you win and knockdown are 4 attacks, each of which gets 2 dice to wound. So you can only kill a max of 4 models, though in theory you could do 8 wounds if those models are heroes.

Im still confused about this. I swear Ive seen battle reports where a mount has more but a models not trapped. Can Gothmog ever have more than 4 attacks and in which case?

Also I dont get it.
You charge, win a fight, knock down, then you get rolls to wound in a turn right? 4 attacks to win the fight, then six you won, he falls and you double....?

gothmog on warg follows the normal rules of cavalary (gains 1A-4 total) if he wins the fight, he knock out stuff probe and inflict the double the amount of wounds vs those guys (since they count probing as trapped)

No. He has 3 of his own, charging on a warg gives him 1 more...from the cavalry charge, not from the warg.

What do you mean by "then six you won"? You get 4 attacks to win the fight. If you win, your opponent's models are knocked down. If you charged 6 WoMT, you could only kill four: you make 4 strikes, and for each strike you roll 2 dice. If, however, you charged Aragorn, you still make 4 strikes, but each strike gives you 2 dice, so you could still generate 8 wounds.

This is all, of course, assuming you are charging and in base contact with only infantry. If you are charging cavalry, or get counter-charged by cavalry before the fight is resolved, you don't get the extra attack, nor knockdown if you win.

Ok, THATS the part I was looking for. Thank you!
