Im trying a bit of fun against a friend of mine...

he wantes 1250pts without following the normal warband rules and hes a dwarven player so he will field alot dwarves and some heroes, I think dain and balin and such...

Im trying to decide which to take
some bit of battle of the five armies mix or something nasty... here 2 lists...
models on foot are that way cause I dont have the mounted version (for those who can get mount that is)

List 1

Azog, lieutenant of Sauron on foot
2 gundabad orc captains with shield
23 gundabad warriors with shields
17 gundabad warriors with spears
24 hunters orcs (8 with bow, 4 with two handed)
22 Goblin town goblins (mercenaries)

List 2

The Dark Lord Sauron, with the ring
8 gundabad orc warriors with shield
7 gundabad orc warriors with spear

What you think would spoke him more/be more effective?

List 1, and do you actually have 40 gundabads? If so I'm impressed!

Mid Sussex Wargamers

I personally think that List 2 would be better for scare tactics. Its not a fun task to look across the battlefield and see Sauron with the the ring. He alone would do some devastating damage to the enemy. I like List 1 for the numbers it will give you, especially with those Gundabad orcs. And the trolls, while not having Sauron's ability to hit every member in combat, have a very similar strength so melee combats would be in your favor there. I think List 1 gives you the better edge, but I would love to see List 2 in action also! You should definitely take some pictures of the battle and post em to show us all!

If he's fielding heavy dwarf heroes Azog will be very useful to have around though.

Well battle didnt went full my friend took long to move around.

He had alot dwarves, 111 in total.

of the force

I tried list 1

He divided his force from (my view side) right side armoured force, archers in middle, rangers and a bit lighter armorued dwarves to the left.
I gathered most of the forces to the left in the hope to kill squishy dwarves.

He pulled the left wing back trying to buy time and get more chances to shoot but then I realized he was pushing his right wing with the heavily armoured force lead by balin, then suddently I used heroic marches to pull my entire force to the right armoured side of the dwarves who were loser (they were like 33 on that side with some archers like 20" away in distance)

I´ve sent some goblins to tie up time as I ran my trolls and gundabad . The goblins encircled the dwarves buying time and nearby 8 man hunter orcs with bows managed to kill some khazad guards right on the early oof the clash...

Balin fought 1 hunter orc but lost combat and got 1 wound and failed the fate roll, on balin´s first fight.
He then withdraw balin within the dwarven ranks as his bigger force started to realize my counter attack on the flanking and rush on balin´s aid.
my main gundabad orcs were just blocking like 60% of his force and threatning, while the hunter orcs, goblins and some gundabad were having fun killing dwarves.

He was rolling really bad and the dwarves were getting encircled, the trols 1st push into their lines tossed dwarves deep inside their ranks knocking them out and killing 2/3 at each throw.

Azog decapitated Balin itself and he trapped the dwarf with some hunter orcs around and the field. Then picked Balin´s head with his iron hook and showed his middle finger to Balin´s cousin, Gimli like 24" away (as we thought :P)

What happened to those 33 dwarves?
