Post subject:  Shire List

Well, the title says it all. A Shire List.
I need help making one please. :D
It all started after I finished my Isengard army. My friend and I were joking around and we were having a great time talking about slaughtering the Balrog with a frying pan armed Sam and Sam killing everyone. Well, really stupid but I decided I'd make a Shire list just for kicks. My friend laughs at me and says why?
Reasons:
1. I have never seen anyone use them. I know why.
2. If I can make a competitive list great.
3. It'll be fun.
4. I knew you guys would help me make a really good Shire list.

So, will you guys? 8)

well the shire isnt that compedative because of the model limit (although if you play at 200- 300pts then they can really show their horde power, 501pts if good, then u can get 75 models and your oppenents have a harder time getting more models)

but their is 1 very good reason to get hobbits:
they are SO MUCH FUN!!! even if they dont do so well in battle, just think of having a bunch of these on your shelf.... they are the best to collect.

only down side is the $....

as for making a list.... well depends if you want to play for fun or competitively....

get lots of sheriffs if competitively, if not then sheriffs and militia (cause militia are not worth the points compared to sheriffs.... but they make the list more thematic....)

Agreed.
Its meant for fun but a competitive Element would be cool. I'm aiming for 650 pts. because thats how much my community plays so any help would be appreciated. The main problem I have is I don't know the balance between infantry and heroes. An help would be appreciated.

You're not going to get a choice, as hobbits are so cheap you will get a lot of heroes and can have excellent hard-core heroes such as Gandalf and Aragorn. Why not try and build one yourself with what you feel like using and post again, half the fun is designing forces.

1. Well, I've used a Shire army at a tourenment in Syracuse once...won 1/4 of my games and they were never really over matched horribly.
The list composed mostly of Shirriffs with 1/3 Archers, several Dunedain Rangers, Aragorn (Isildur's Heir), Gandalf and Bilbo and Merry and Pippin (both armored).

2. You can, but don't expect the army to be very easy or even marginally easy to play

3. It actually is if you enjoy a challenge (and it is a challenge)

4. I'll see if I can find the exact list of models I used...might need a day or two however.

Cool thanks. I'll post both my Shire and Isengard list here eventually.

I was actually thinking of making a shire list but i really couldnt be botherd spending lots of money on so much hobbits. if i was to make a shire list though i would probally have Gandalf the grey, sam , frodo(for the banner rule), Bandobras took and farmer maggot as heros.. then i would go all out with lots of hobbits :D well thats just my idea of a hobbit list that would be a bit competitive.

Definitely. Hobbits are just kind of fun and cool. I mean even though their special rules are dinky, Strength 1 stones and Resistance to Magic, I still think they look fun. Their main downfall is certainly not being able to ally. That really [word deleted] me off. :x

The model count in that army is tiny for 750pts. if you want hobbits, I suggest taking swarms of hobbits in an army as that is what hobbits are for.

ya, im amazed that you only have 44 models, as army lists that i made up for 200pts were already at 48 models....

and haveing so many models is the hobbits only main strength

guys i think bilboofthewhitetower is probly a really experience player with hobbits, well more experienced than any of us anyway.. so i guess that list would work. but yeah i agree with everyone else that i would take more hobbits and maybe takeout aragon and the dunedain. but then if you do that you would have to spend more $$$ buying more hobbits :o :o :o

hey bilboofthewhitetower
is your army low on hobbits because they are expensive to collect?
or is that you have a different playstyle?

When people play against hobbits they often forget the Throw Stones rule, and move within 6" of your lines, ready to charge next turn. They often regret it when the stones start flying!

You're more than welcome SamtheInsane. Oh yeah and throwing stones is a must...these little buggers do a pretty decent job with them rocks. :)
