I already have an Isengard army but since I had that for a long time already, I wanted to begin a new "good" army (good in the sense of the non evil forces :-D ). I don't have too much money, so I would like to have a lot of mini's for not too much money. I really don't know what army to pick, so any suggestion is welcome.

Well, Gondor has 4 plastic sets so that's one lace to look. Elves is another option, and then I am talking about gadrim and wood elves. They have 3 plastic sets and can cost a lot of points so you won't have to spend as much money.

I was also looking at the dwarves, they also have the basic warrior boxes and even a ranger box. I'm not sure how much points they cost, but they also go pretty high, no? I actually would like to avoid the galadhrim elves since 2 of my friends also play with them. Anyways, thanks for the suggestion :)

The dwarves is of course a way to go, a box of dwarves cost 8 points more than a box of WoMT. The ranger box can cost anywhere from 192 points to 264 points (if my math isn't wrong) but with dwarves you will need some elites to do the offensive part. a good option in this aspect is to buy the box with Balin and 8 khazads. If you are playing dwqrves you will probably need 1 or 2 banners if you are not allying in spears.

That makes the dwarves a lot more expensive (in real life :)), with all those metal elites I have to buy then. I'll probably take Gondor then. Thanks for the help :). One more question tough: is Gandalf the White and/or RoME legal in a normal Gondor list (WoMT and some captains) or will I need a special Captain for the rangers?

Yes, Gandalf can be allied into pretty much every Good army and you will find both rangers, WoMT and Captains in the Rangers of Ithilien army list. If you want cavalry though you must allie with Tower of Ecthelion or Fiefdoms whp both have plastic cavalry.

So I can make a list with Gandalf (the white or the grey), WoMT, Rangers and standard captains or captains like Faramir, Boromir, Aragorn,...?

Does anyone in your group have Legions of Middle Earth? all information about legal armies are there. But to answer your question: Faramir, Boromir and Aragorn are not captains. Boromir and Aragorn are in the Tower of Ecthelion list so you can field them with the other stuff you mentioned as long as you have Faramir, Damrod, Madril, Cirion or a captain to lead the Rangers of Ithilien list. Note that Aragorn and Boromir can not be fielded together. Gandalf can be included in your army as long as you have one of the above mentioned heroes.

Ok, thanks. I'm actually going to buy the LoME book as soon as possible :).

I think it's easier to make an optimized list with the basic dwarf kit than the basic Gondor kits.

You can make a functional 500 point dwarf army with 2 boxes of warriors, a command set and, say, Balin or Gimli. Dwarves are all elite in terms of Fight score, and have high defence (which is the trade off for lack of spears). Then you can slowly add blisters of Khazad Guard or Iron Guard as you see fit. The only real problem with dwarves is they move slow. (Personally not a fan of the dwarf ranger concept, so I don't use them.)

For Gondor, the plastic kits are either average Fight (WoMT/KoMT), or low defence (Rangers). Maybe the cheapest starting list would be with the Rangers of Ithilien LoME list, for which you'd need a box of WoMT and a box of Rangers, and the Faramir/Damrod blister. However, you'll probably be in the situation where you have more than 1/3rd Rangers in your army, so not all of them will be able to shoot, which means to make an optimized list you'd need 2 boxes of WoMT + a box of Rangers. You get spear support and good shooting, but your front line can be chewed by Morannons, and Rangers will be chewed by Uruks.

You could 2 boxes of WoMT + command blister + Faramir, but I don't think it would be as effective as the dwarf list for the same $$.

thanks :) I just found an armoured Faramir and a banner from my Batlle Game magazines so I'll just go with Gondor, thanks for the tips whafrog and The Horde Lord :).
