Hey all,

I'm trying to make a tactically flexible Mordor list with some troop variety and without using the Shadow Lord.

Morannon Orc Captain (shield) - 50
Ringwraith (2/7/1) - 70
Spider Queen - 75

2 Black Guard - 24
12 Morannon Orcs (shields) - 96
7 Mordor Orcs (spears, shields) - 49
8 Mordor Orcs (spears) - 48
11 Orc Trackers - 55
3 Orc Trackers (wargs) -33

500 points
46 models
6 Might, 4 disposable Might (that's for you BlackMist :-D )
14 bows

Thoughts?

Two questions...
1. Would it be worth dropping a model and fiddling with the points to swap the Morannon Captain for a Black Guard Captain? The courage boost granted by the wraith is tempting...
2. Should I give all the Mordor Orcs shields? I want at least some to have shields for tactical flexibility & the shielding rule when playing scenarios such as Domination. But as it is my opponent will just concentrate all bowfire into the models without shields so it won't really help against shooting...

Thanks!

Yeah i'd go for the black guard captain, You're gonna want a stronger leader for the infantry and the combo with the wraith is sure to be useful, if not essential if things take a turn for the worse (especially with cowardly orcs :p) you may aswell go for the shields; drop 3 spearmen and uprgrade to a black guard captain and then give the rest of the orcs shields. Or you could replace the spear-only orcs with more black guard? seems a bit strange to only have 2.

I only wanted two for some troop variety and as a bodyguard for my captain. Their higher strength and courage should be useful for taking out enemy heros. I also don't want to buy too many because I hope to include an Orc Drummer in my force at higher points levels, and they can't benefit from his special rule.

Oh ok, come to think of it are there actually any evil models with the bodyguard rule?

No, but berzerkers come close and all but 1 evil faction has fury.

I meant in a protect him/team up with him in combat way, I know they don't have the bodyguard rule (though it seems like they should...). I can't think of any evil Bodyguards off the top of my head, but if they ever get around to making Easterling Dragon Guards I assume they would have it.

Yeah i understand what you mean, im suprised the abrakan merchant guards dont have the bodyguard rule, especially considering they literally carry their king into battle. However i think there are more evil models that can produce courage bonuses than there are good (as the horde lord rightly said) im not sure tho. I'd like to see an evil model similair to the dwarf sheildbearer, preferrably a troll. I doubt i'd ever use it but it's nice to have lots of options available :)
