Hey Guys,

My name is Connor, i'm 15 and I am new to the LOTR SBG series. I recently purchased the painting starter set containing the twelve Moria Goblins along with all necessary clippers, glues and basing material.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend which figures I should collect to build a Moria Goblin army as I am new!

P.S - I'm on a tight budget so give me a hand with the prices? (:

Thanks in Advance,
Connor.

Hey, welcome to the game :D

If you're playing moria, you should probably buy a lot of goblin warrior boxes. And I mean a lot!! Also the goblin king (durburz) and some shamans and captains. I don't know what kind of elites you should get, but cave trolls work pretty good too. I don't know if you already have a rulebook, but if you don't have one, get the MoM starter set. You get some more goblins, the rulebook and a cave troll!! You should also probably buy the khazad-dum sourcebook. You can't buy them on the GW site atm, don't ask me why.

I hope that helped

Kiliaan

ps. You don't live in Belgium, do you?? I know a 15year old connor :P

Thank you very much, that helped alot!

I am planning to get a ready painted Durburz off of eBay tonight and will probably find some Moria Goblins in bulk on eBay too. (:

Also, the MoM starter set is quite steep in price for me at just over £50 because I don't have a job, so what would you recommend as a replacement?

Thanks again, and no, I live in Scotland. 8)

Seems like your off to a good start. For you next buy, I would recommend a Cave Troll; they're fun to use and will help tactically.

As for getting some rules, I still think the Mines of Moria set would probably be best for you. However, if you can't get that then just try to get the big rulebook off ebay. You should be able to get it for about £25.

Yes, after Durburz, a hard-hitter like a Cave Troll seems like a step in the right direction. Any idea how many paints I would need to paint it to a reasonable gaming standard?

Also, I shall look around for a copy of the rule book somewhere, always good for reference.

Thank you, Elessar.

I still think that the MoM set is a really good deal for a beginner moria without a rulebook. It's too bad you don't have the money :( it's also probably not your birthday in a couple of weeks or something? :P The main thing for Moria tough is lots of goblins and some cave trolls :D

For the paints question, for your goblins you need something like Boltgun Metal, something Camo Green-ish or Catachan Green (or any color you want the flesh of your gobbies to be), some scorched brown and a Badab Black wash. About the cave troll I'm not sure, but maybe some Rotting Flesh and Codex grey?? You should look somewhere else for the cave troll scheme tough, I'm not an expert :)

I don't have my birthday until November :( but I was on the phone to my grandmother earlier and she says she has some money for me, add my pocket money which I get around the fifteenth next month I should have around fourty pounds!

I will ask my father whether he thinks it's a good idea to buy the MoM set or not when the time comes. Also, I have all the paints I need for my Moria Goblins from my painting starter kit and I have three completed and based to a reasonable standard already (I can provide picture tomorrow if you wish)?

Also, I shall look around for the troll colour scheme or I could just ask someone at GamesWorkshop what they would recommend.

I really can't tell the painting scheme of the troll, but I think that the painting scheme is in the extra book in the MoM set. You could indeed ask someone at you GW.

Yes, I will keep all you guys updated on my army and thanks for both of your help so far. Would you like to see images of my first three goblins?

Sorry, Photobucket is being rubbish! I will take some pictures tomorrow and get them up. I will go over all the models again and perfect them once all twelve are finished. :)

Just go on ebay and find whatever you can. Goblins are very abundant on ebay and it shouldn't be difficult to find a bargain, i recently got a24 goblins and a troll for £3.00 and in a separate auction got a troll for £1.00!!!!

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/conte ... d=2400012a this link leads you to "Getting Started with Mines of Moria" you can find out a bunch of stuff about MoM and if go along a few pages, a guide to painting goblins and a cave troll, not to mention the whole plastic MoM versions of the Fellowship of the Ring. When I just started out, I received the MoM and bought myself a box of Dwarf Warriors, and a Command blister and I was set to play not only scenarios with the Fellowship of the Ring, but the historic conflicts between Dwarves and Goblins! :D

Thanks for all the help while I was offline guys, first off, Kili.

I would love to see your Urak-Hai models but it would probably be best to PM them to me as they're off topic. Also, I hope you enjoy your game!

Now, SuicidalMarsbar, those are amazing deals and congratulations to you finding them! I will continue to browse on eBay as I know it's full off well priced models.

And finally, Sir Richard, I will most likely work my way towards the MoM set because the only other think I need now is a set of rules, more Moria Goblins and a Cave Troll. All of which are in that one set!

Also, would you guys like me to create a Work In Progress (W.I.P) thread?

I'll take that as a yes, mate!

I might be too busy tonight to build a W.I.P thread. I may only have time to post a few pictures of my goblins here tonight. If I don't make one tonight, I will make one tomorrow. I promise.
