Im playing a game tomorrow evening with my Fallen Realms army against my ex with his Mordor Army, we are playing a 1200 point game and he always plays Khamul the Betrayer and Gothmog. I just can't seem to defeat him with this Army list, so my question is what FR army list would you use against him and any tactical help too would be appreciated Thanx x |

Firstly, remember both Khamul and Betrayer are in your list too, and you have enough ally pts to include Gothmog (you can have the same hero on both sides). Put Khamul and Gothmog in a 6 company block of Khandish Wariors with 2-handed if possible, and the Betrayer (and possibly Dalamyr too) in formations of 4 comps of Easterling infantry, give those (except Dalymyr's if you have him) pikes, and take a formation of Corsair Arbalesters or two, give them a Captain, and temporarliy put the Betrayer in them, to mess up the enemy. If you hhave any pts left, a Mumak or some cavalry. |

Amdur and Half Trolls is another great idea. Love the Betrayer with Arbalesters. If you have the troops, Host of Karna is great from Battlehosts. |

Ah but the Amdur plus Half Trolls is a lot of pts for 1200, not until you reach 1750-2000, should that combo be used. |

Well I got beat big time against his Mordor army, he played Gothmog the Betrayer and Khamul as usual with lots and lots of Morannons, just couldn't do enough. So the next game I'm thinking of using my MM Army against his Mordor Army. What would you suggest using against him? I just wanna win once lol x |

May I first recommend reading the advice people given you before going to battle Take Durburz and Druzhag, ally in Khamul and Gothmog, take on really big formation of Prowlers, multiple formations of Blackshields, a handful of archers and wargs/spiders. And plop in a Stone Giant too (if you want to, or possibly a Dragon) |

I do, I really do. I don't own Gothmog so maybe I should buy him. I think the next game will be a 1000 point game, that's why I'm leaning toward playing my MM army as they are a cheaper base army. Playing Druzhag Durburz Khamul and Gothmog plus a Dragon would leave me with no goblins tho. I'm wondering weather to play lots and lots of prowlers |

I am a man, and I can honestly say, we are predictable! Therefore think about how he has played previous as he will more than likely do the same again. If he has magic, might it be worth having magic also? Perhaps having a crude siege engine will scare him into combat, forcing his hand and giving you an opportunity to take the initiative. Gothmog is no match for a Troll or even a Troll Cheiftain (if you have one) so you could take one of them. If you can 'outgun' your opponents heroes, then it's just a matter of numbers and the dice. What troop types does he use? Can you exploit their weaknesses for instance, if he takes predominantly defences 5 types then taking strength 4 warriors is redundant (see Wound Chart). But if he takes defence 6 types then you will need the str 4s. An example 1000 point Fallen Realm list might have 500 point Haradrim/Easterling with either Suladan or Amdur perhaps 300 point Mordor ally with Troll Chieftain and cheap orcs 200 points of Ringwraiths (named + unnamed characters mounted on steed/ fellbeast) In combat try to pile everything in on the first turn of combat. You want to break part of his line so don't engage all of his line at once otherwise the results will come down to the luck of the dice and the ability of the warriors. Instead focus on numbers in the first turn, then in later turns you will have more dice to roll. Perhaps post some of the models you have available and we'll discuss tactics and lists |

@lord erkenbrand, this is for WOTR not SBG, the rules of winning are different, Gothmog is far better value than Troll Chief for example. |

Hi NotLegolasJustTipsy , I've beaten this type of army but it is difficult because you have to play better than your opponent - it is the classic 'go to' efficient army in WOTR and you can't just list design yourself something that will be more effective. What I have found to be most effective was run a small blocks + epics style force. So small units of 3-4 def 7 troops (your 30pt Easterlings spring to mind) each, plus some shooting. Corsair Arbalests are one thing you have over the Mordor list but you could go with converted Siege bows. Then your aim is to hold part of his army - he will tend to bunch better heroes so Gothmog can team up with them - and then gang up on units that do not currently have wraiths using multiple smaller units. Defensible terrain (due to its impressive space/time folding properties) can be really helpful here too. It is essential that you distribute capabilities amongst your list as evenly as possible, that way, he can't try to face key threats and you are more likely to get openings. You are basically trying to get far enough ahead that when it comes to that last hero filled bunker, you can beat it through attrition. Of course, if you can manage to box it in and walk a Mumak over it.... It will require practice, it took a while for the idea to 'click' with me too - theory is one thing but the required 'habits' are another. Hope that helps. |

well as of feb 4th all evil will be one army so all you realy need is to take the same stuff then it's just dow to the dice two of each nazgul and two gothmogs. i smell a PARADOX! |

What do you mean all evil will be one army? Surely the WOTR book will stay the same? |

Post subject: | Re: Fallen Realms v Mordor |
WotR does stay the same, except being an expansion only. And in SBG there are stil distinct armies, warriors in a SBG warband must be led by a hero from the same 'faction'. |

Post subject: | Re: Fallen Realms v Mordor |
well yes but from all evil books you can choose your warbands say unit of mordor orks warband of goblins and a warband of easterlings can all be taken in the same list!!! |
Author: | GothmogtheWerewolf [ Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:11 pm ] |
Post subject: | Re: Fallen Realms v Mordor |
You could do that before because orcs (spelt with a 'c' unless in 40k) and easterlings could ally. |

Post subject: | Re: Fallen Realms v Mordor |
sorry about spelling wasn't thinking. yes but now they're not allies they are for all intents and purposes one army. (with different sourcebooks mind you) |
Author: | GothmogtheWerewolf [ Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:28 pm ] |
Post subject: | Re: Fallen Realms v Mordor |
That does make them allies, as the Orc warband must have a hero, the Goblin warband must have a hero and the Easterling warband must have a hero. Thats the same as the LoME ally rule. |

well i think some heros like the betrayer are used in multiple lists from different armies |

Yes, Khamul, the Betrayer, the KoU, The Witch-king, the Dwimmerlaik, the Tainted, Dragons, Spider Queens, Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir and otherc can be used in more than one army, but they can only counts as being in one army, they cannot lead two warbands. Eg if Khamul was selected as from Easterlings, then his warband could only consist of easterlings and khandish troops, not orcs, warg riders etc.., or if he was in Mordor, he couild lead Orcs etc but not the easterlings. |
