Hello again all, I'm playing a game or two on Wednesday night and we've set a 500 pts limit. I've been struggling to decide between Dwarves, Easterlings and Moria allied with Isengard. I've drafted up 3 lists, would people be kind enough to let me know either which list is best, or where I could improve them. Dwarves: Warband 1 Balin w. During's Axe - 85 1x Warrior with Warhorn - 28 4x Warrior with Shield - 36 4x Iron Guard - 60 Dwarf Ballista - 60 Total: 264 Warband 2 King's Champion - 125 6x Khazâd Guard - 66 4x Warrior with Shield - 36 Total: 227 Overall 496 pts. Easterlings: Warband 1 Amdur on Armoured Horse - 115 5x Kataphracts - 70 1x Kataphract with War Drum - 29 6x Easterlings with Shields - 48 Total: 262 Warband 2 War Priest - 60 6x Easterlings with Shields - 48 6x Easterlings with Bows - 48 Total: 156 Mounted Dragon Knight - 85 Overall: 503 pts Moria with allied Isengard Warband 1 Groblog - 55 6x Goblins with Shield - 30 6x Goblins with Spear - 30 Total: 105 Warband 2 Moria Shaman - 45 Dweller in the Dark - 75 Cave Troll with Spear and Chain - 86 6x Wild Wargs - 48 Total: 254 Uruk-hai Shaman - 50 9x Uruk Hai Warriors with Shields - 90 Total: 140 Overall 499 pts Sorry for the massive list, but I'm still getting to grips with writing army lists and I've only managed to play a few games. Regards, Adam. |

All of them seems nice, the first army is an army of heavy warriors that delivers strong hit, your second is an army of fast attack and your third uses magic and different classes of warriors... It's up to you... All seems almost equally to me |

1) Solid but not sure if the balista is needed with so little intent to sit back. Horn at 500pts when you are already C4? 2) depends how you use it. Could be amazing... could fail 3) too small. at 500pts you dont need a dwellar and a troll, do you really need uraks? Personally with 3) I would a) drop the uraks, switch in more goblins and a gobbo shaman b) Drop the dwellar for more gobbos. The troll will do enough damage. c) if you keep both the dwellar and the troll I would want the troll with the goblins cause he will be left behind by his current warband and move a few goblins to be with your shaman. My favourite is number 2! Live on the edge and risk all for a glorious victory. *just re read, this seems like a bit of a slam but I'm trying to be critical and constructive.... trying my bestest* |

I don't have any experience with moria or easterlings so i can't comment on them, but with ur dwarf army it seems very small. You have alot of elites in it though which is pretty good i guess. But if i was you, just imo i would drop the ballista, Warhorn and maybe even the Kings champion for more troops/elites and a cheaper or slightly cheaper hero. |

Dwarven WarHost:: At 500pts the ballista is going to be more of Bringer of 2 rounds of Joy or Sorrow. I've always suggested that one add a 3rd model to a Dwarven Ballista (68pts), helps to move it about at the full 5" movement rate. You'll need to have it pay off that quickly because after that you're going to find your targets are going to be within the 3" scatter range, with most of the new scenario's setups, making your 60pt weapon sink...useless. You could attempt to move the ballista to a better vantage point, but again, in the time it takes to move it your opponent will have dedicated a small task force to eliminate the crew or just move his forces within 3" of your forces and basically ignore the weapon. ((good forces can't fire siege weapons at the enemy if other good models are within the weapons, potential, scatter range)) A ballista is nice, but in the right situations (ie. larger point games). Suggestions: Drop the ballista and Hornblower. Pickup some more troopers and +/- Banner Bearer. - |
