I am going to build some armies who fought duing Gondors civil war. I intend to use regular soldiers of Gondor for the loyalists, but I don't know which figures to use for the rebels. I checked various sources, and found that the corsairs of Umbar didn't really form until well after the civil war. So what figures, GW or other, could I use for Castamir's army? :boromir

Maybe to represent the early Black Numenoreans, remove the symbols from Numenorean shields and add green stuff cloth or symbols of evil.

In my gaming group we played a kin-strife roleplaying campaign with some Battle Companies style miniature games inserted between the RPG sessions. The player characters were loyalists who started from Eldacar's (the rightful king) camp in Rhovanion across the Anduin and waged guerilla war against Castamir's troops. Since Eldacar's troops camped among and got equipment from the Northmen of Rhovanion who were somewhat similar to rohirrim, we used Rohan minis for the loyalists and WoMT for Castamir's troops in the beginning of the campaign (the campaign started after Eldacar's initial defeat and retreat).

The players managed to help the northern fiefdoms rise against Castamir and march towards south for the real battles and there we assumed the PCs were able to obtain heavier equipment. The players' troops were then WoMT and the enemy mostly Harad warriors since we assumed there would be mercenaries from Harad fighting on Castamir's side. I also had some differently painted WoMT (black, red and gold) to represent Castamir's elite troops.

When you start playing a war game, you have to create a good strategy and army lineups to win the battle and mostly some players choose archers because of its range.

Relevance?

Anyway, back on topic. I think CastamirĀ“s army would still think or want to believe they fight for Gondor - after all, it was more of a conservatives rising anyway - so I suppose they would still wear Minas Tirith uniforms, possibly with signs of their hearkening back to the old days - Numenorean helmets, the more stylised "Second Age" tree of Gondor on their shields, and such.
