Hi I'm going to play SBG tomorrow against a friend, who will try Mordor for the first time (with both a troll and the Witch-King ). Will this be able to resist a HORDE of Morannon Orcs to some degree? Warband 1 -Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth (armoured horse, lance) -5 Knights of Dol Amroth (armoured horses, lances) Warband 2 -Faramir, Captain of Gondor (shield, heavy armour) -4 Warriors of Minas Tirith (shields) -4 Warriors of Minas Tirith (shields, spears) -4 Rangers of Gondor Warband 3 -Captain of Minas Tirith (shield) -4 Warriors of Minas Tirith (shields) -4 Warriors of Minas Tirith (shields, spears) -4 Rangers of Gondor Warband 4 -Pippin -3 Warriors of Minas Tirith (shields) -4 Warriors of Minas Tirith (shields, spears) -4 Rangers of Gondor -1 Warrior of Minas Tirith (banner) Warband 5 -Gandalf the White -2 Warriors of Minas Tirith (shields) -2 Warriors of Minas Tirith (shields, spears) -2 Rangers of Gondor Excactly 1000 points. 52 models, break point 26, 14 bows, 12 Might. I think it is a bit low on models (hmm... I wonder if it has anything to do with paying more than twohundred points for the wizard? nah... ) Anyway, are Rangers better than Minas Tirith Warriors w/ bows against Morannons? I've used all my Gondor heroes, except for King Elessar (which I have not glued together yet ). I could ally in Legolas, Gimli, Strider or foot Rohan, although the last one seems pointless. I would be very glad to hear any opinions or suggestions, even though the game is very soon. Thank you for reading in anyway, Elessar Telcontar |

1. I'm not sure if Gandalf can lead gondor troops. 2. Pippin is an independed hero, so he cannot lead any warbands. 3. take beregond instead of that captain, much cheaper. 4. If you have any shield fountain guards, use them instead of the shield minas tirith warriors. 5. leave the shields away on the spear troops. |

Thanks for the quick reply. We don't have the new sourcebooks yet, so we play by the One Rulebook, therefore I didn't take Gandalf or Pippin's lacking availability to lead Gondor units. I don't have any GotFC, but almost unending numbers of WoMT, and we don't have anything against proxies, so it is a possibility. I didn't do it because I don't want to be heavyily outnumbered. Thank you for the shield tip, I sure does not need them against Morannons and Warg Riders. |

Yes, as the tefence difference between 5 and 6 doesn't matter when against s4 morannon and wargs |

Do you have any suggestions against two Mordor Trolls? I could try to swarm them, and I'll replace Gandalf with Aragorn, but the Witch King would Transfix either him or Imrahil all the time! Sigh, I just gotta try. |

If you can't shoot them or blast them, then this is where Citadel or Fountain guard come in handy: no problem charging. This is very handy if you want to keep the troll at bay with one warrior at a time while you deal with something else. It's very satisfying to neuter such a beast with one warrior until you can swarm him properly. |

I think the biggest mistake is not taking Boromir in a 1000 pts match. That's a whopping 6 might for the whole battle! |

Well he already has Imrahil, I think 2-uber heroes would be too many points. List looks solid, but you might want to put some more fight 4 in if you can, (Citadel or Fountain Guards), to give you the edge in close combat. |

Thanks for all your help. I ended up using this list: -Aragorn, King Elessar (armoured horse) -12 Guards of the Fountain Court (shields) -Faramir, Captain of Gondor (heavy armour, shield) -11 Warriors of Minas Tirith (10 spears, 1 banner) -Captain of Minas Tirith (shield) -12 Rangers of Gondor -Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth (armoured horse, lance) -5 Knights of Dol Amroth And I won! Aragorn single-handed killed a troll AND the witch-king (with fell beast) before he managed to successfully cast even one spell, while the other troll got pierced by Imrahil and his knights. So thank you very much again for your advice! |
