Anyone here ever played an all hero evil force? I know 4 wraiths On fellbeast is quite popular but I had something less "powergaming" in mind, made outta trolls n stuff. Any tips? I was thinking: Tainted on horseback Witch king on pony (1 might,10 will, 1 fate) Shelob Black guard captain Black guard hornblower 3 mordor trolls Anyone got any bright ideas to get more might into this list? I chose shelob over sq for added defence and wounds. I ain't got any of the new rulebooks so all the new blokes are unknown to me. Aim here is to break the enemy force then plonk tainted slap bang in the middle of the enemy. Hornblower runs and hides on turn 1, if enemy choose to pursue him- great, less resources put towards killing my dudes. 5 might isn't much but should be enough. I could swap witch king and a troll for warg chief+burdhur... |

Hi there SuicidalMarsbar I ussually play good guy forces made up of fellowship + friends these ussually work out quite well if i have a few really heavy-hitting heros along with a small force of high defence, elite warriors such as Iron/Khazad guard or some High elves high courage or 'bodyguard' rules help alot with charging scary monsters and when your force is broken I would definetly recommend taking a few more troops of any kind though perhaps a few more Black Guard would be good... The hornblower is a good idea though; he should help shelob to not get scared hope this helps SidTheSloth |

Elessar Telcontar wrote: Wait... Can the witch-king have a pony now? Yeah if he takes it he gets a rule to disguise himself as a hobbit, pretty sweet! And Sid, in this particular force, taking more troops would surely hinder me, i will break easier meaning my pants courage will become tested, if anything the list should be whittled down yeah? |

Yes that is a problem. but usually with not much Might and not many troops I just get mushed because I get surrounded by zillions of foes and then i evenually loose the fight if you dont fancy too many troops than you should probly get somemore might as, with only 4 might in the whole army, you won't be able to boost many rolls to win fights |

That's true, maybe getting rid of all of the mordor trolls for 2 cave trolls+burdhur+boosting wk might? This would mean the black guard's warband becomes pretty poor (unless he can be in one of the wraiths warbands, is that allowed?) However i think that the hornblower is pretty important and i don't really want to lose him :/ Can Shelob lead a mordor contingent? |

No same, i doubt I'll be using it for a while but i kinda want my basket to be applicable to the warband thing :/ Reckon i'll go for my last idea, current list will be: Burdbur 3 cave trolls Shelob The tainted on horse Witch king on horse (3 14 3) Fewer numbers but the list is more equally divided, one mounted force and one foot force. defence 7 across the board is pretty good and shelob is v. effective when backed up by wraiths. |

Shelob is in Mordor, but is an Independent Hero and can't lead troops if you want to know. You might want braver Trolls than Cave Trolls I think. |

Yes perhaps some isengard trolls might be good they have higher courage and also higher defence which should help stop your force being broken the problem is they're more points either that, or swap somthing for a high defence hornblower (black guard of barad-dur or black numenorian?) |

Black Guards can't have hornblowers as par Warbands. Only certain models can. |

It looks like a fun monster list its the first in a long time that old shelob was used if she dont do a runner coz of her rules. I would go with isangard trolls D7/D8 i thing fun list to try give it a go |

"old shelob"? Did her rules get an update, what are the changes. Isengard trolls are a nice idea but A: I prefer mirror trolls as they outfight/are stronger then isengard trolls and B: no-one in isengard us 'big' enough to lead them except saruman, dunno if he got a stat change but I don't see much in him for 180pts mounted that a wraith can't do better... |

Sorry no stat up date for shelob but could do with one and old shelob is what gorbag said about her in return of the king. |

Tbh i reckon Shelob is a bit of alright. Even though she MAY run when wounded, shes got over a 50% chance of not running, 6 will to back that up and defence 7 is quite alot anyway. Also if i'm fielding her alongside a wraith then few warriors should be able to charge her. However i really think i'm gonna need a hornblower to give her a helping hand, just incase... |

Best i'll probably be able to get tbh Gothmog, although in the context of a normal army, i could drop the cave trolls for goblins+a blackshield drum and get bonus courage etc. How effective would an orc taskmaster be, he could make up for the lack of might but is also quite flimsy, any tips? |

Orc Taskmaster's profile is identical to a normal Orc Captain, but has a whip (which is pointless) and the Might rule. In combat, don't expect more from him than a lowly Captain, if you want one, put him at the back. |
